The film could be much better. Maybe it aged too much, but today watching it is a bit of a tough challange. First is directing. It isn't that bad but not very decent either. But the most annoying aspects are the script (I don't know how it won the Oscar) and the main characters (others are absurd too, but not that much). I don't know why director thought that this constant screaming and yelling would be funny or at least reasonable, but it is not. Most of the dialoges are absurd as well. Of course it's not actors' fault, but due to the plot and screenplay they annoy most of the time and make laugh rarely. Stereotypical German guy is another irritating thing.
The good sides of the film are a few good jokes, more or less good directing, interesting idea and a few nice songs. But it is still hard to watch, although it runs for less then hour and a half. You can surely skip it and you won't miss anything.
