I loved the image of the white peacock toward the end. It felt very powerful and I had to look up the symbolic meaning -that's all I'll say about it because it fit perfectly... the end as well ...because isn't that how life is? Nothing ever really turns out way we expect it to. But the connections we make with each other are what count. I loved watching these characters strip away their masks and get real with themselves and each other- a beautiful beautiful movie. I don't watch a lot of foreign films but the story transcended having to bounce back-and-forth between subtitles and the mixture of some English that I could understand. A story about family that transcends culture while simultaneously opening a window into an intimate experience of Pakistani life while telling the story of a family who achieved material affluence, and paid a great price to keep it. Also the soundtrack- music was so beautiful. I was really touched at times by both the poetry of the translated meaning and the sound of the music itself communicating more than words - the songs integrated into the story, providing another way to experience the lives of the characters. Yes this movie touched me enough to write a review about it... it wasn't perfect it wasn't gripping I didn't cry but I caught my breath often and went back and replayed scenes while I was watching it on a streaming platform and was totally mesmerized by the way this film was crafted. So glad I didn't miss watching it because I almost passed it by - it was well worth savoring.
