Berserk.. where to begin?
It has 3 parts, and I have watched all of them more then 5 times. I think I will watch them again soon. I have seen several animes like attack on titan, death note, bleach, but also beautiful ones like naruto and so on. This one is my favourite, of all of them. The ones that I have mentioned are also top notch, don't get me wrong. But this one is the one I personally like the most, this is why:
In short:
1. Extremely intense fights, with gore, blood, good special effects (sounds), etc. The main character is not immortal, so it stays thrilling.
2. Mysterious story, events and background of the main character, and several other characters. There are many things that are not explained, so it keeps you thinking. But they are very interesting. I hope there will be more of Berserk one day, and some things can perhaps be explained more. But it is interesting in this way, either way.
3. Kind of nice romance happening between main character and another person. Love - hate relationship, quite uniquely done and makes it more interesting.
4. Love the theme; Medieval, sieges, demons, mysterious events, etc. See for yourself.
5. The music. Never heard of something like this myself. Maybe this is my own bias, but I like it eitherway. The intro, music all the way through the movies. Hear if for yourself.

The story is about Guts (last name unkown, to me). He is a strong man with a dramatic past. It is a real mystery who he really is and what happened to him during his youth, but he is mentally (and physically) scarred, that is for sure. Sometimes he gets flashbacks or nightmares of his past, but these are quite blurred so its hard to make something of it. Guts tries to come by doing some mercenary work. He earns money to live. In the first scene Guts and other mercenary attack the opposing army. In this scene it immediately grabbed my attention. The fights are bloody and provide some gore. The sounds used as special effects are great in my oppinion, the way they fight, the way the weapons plung into the enemy and are stuck in them (sounds aweful doesn't it? Lol). These fights are one of the reasons that make Berserk so good, for me. Guts defeats a lot of enemies and stumbles upon a extremely big man. The allies don't dare to attack the big opposing man. Guts, half so big, with a two handed sword as big as himself, shows no fear. He obliterates the big guy in such manner that no one shall forget him. The fights are great. They are so intense. They shall happen quite often in these movies and Guts will meet more and more foes that are stronger than the earlier ones. Ofcourse he defeats all of them. Humongous demons, big party's of soldiers, they are no match for Guts. The fights are thrilling. Guts is no immortal man, and he loses a few times in the movies. He actually loses one arm and one eye during the movies. This makes it even better and more 'realistic'. If you like intens fights like described above, then watch this.
There is a lot more to Berserk then only the fights. The characters are really interesting, the story is mysterious, but I don't want to tell you too much about this. If the things I described above already attract you to watch it, then just do it!
I hope there will be more of this. They have made a series after the 3 movies, the black swordsman. Its not bad if you really like the story, but I understand why other fans think the 3 movies are better. The story kind of continues after the 3 movies, but there are many other topics that are not very related. You will have to see for yourself. The fights though, evil enemies, gore etc, are still the same :), so it was not difficult to watch for me.
