Creepy horror anthology formed by three segments and yet another in cartoon movie . The first titled " Old Chief Wood'nhead!" deals with a wooden Indian that is brought to life causing massacre , destruction and mayhem, being starred by George Kennedy , Dorothy Lamour , Dana Carvey , Holt McCalany , Tom Savini . The second " The Raft" about a vacation gone wrong starred by Paul Satterfield . And the third titled "The Hitchhiker" concerning a hit-and-run driver performed by Lois Chiles and Tom Wright as a hitchhiker who terrorises the Lady in distress .
Frightening episodes film with plenty of thrills , chills , ghastly scenes and lots of gore and blood . The linking animation sequences featuring a young comics reader are reasonably effective . The film pays a good tribute to Bill Gaines' E C Comic Books , following its peculiar style by taking parts here and there of the classic horror comics of the 50s that delighted in grisly , grotesque and morbid black humor . In fact , the old Amicus movies used EC Comics originals to get better effect and with more brevity , for all their cardboard sets . With despicable heroes and gory moments , this is sure to delight all enthusiasts of the horror vein . Cast is pretty good with some familiar faces as George Kennedy , Holt McCalany , Dana Carvey , Tom Wright and of course the excellent makeup artist Tom Savini in a special cameo . Look for Stephen King as a truck driver .
The motion picture was professionañly directed by Michael Gornick , George A Romerro's regular cameraman . This is an eerie , scary and childish material from two masters of genre : George A Romero and Stephen King . Rating : 6/10 , acceptable and passable and it will appeal to the terror aficionados and being in similar style to Creepshow I (1982) directed by George A Romero . Those easily repulsed by gore and blood beware !
