I thought I'd better get around to watching the various Marvel TV shows on Netflix so started off with JESSICA JONES. This first episode isn't really very good at all and for a series opener feels like a big letdown. I found Krysten Ritter annoying in BREAKING BAD and her character is similarly so here: wisecracking, sarcastic, self-centred and just not an appealing character to be spending so much time with. The mystery aspects are more interesting, especially in the second half of the show, but the grubby backdrop is tiresome as is the obsession with sex and sexuality bringing nothing to the story. Some of the direction also feels badly dated even jut five years later.
