The title comes from the fact that the doctor is scared to death of black cats. The American couple goes on a honeymoon in Gombes, Hungary and they met a man in their compartment and when they got on the bus after getting off the train, they got an accident and mrs Allison got injured. Their new friend dr. Vitus suggested going to the house of a friend of his named Poelzig who fought during the war and built a mansion on the ruins of a castle in which he fought. He also killed her wife while doctor was in a dungeon in Russia and married her daughter which was the biggest twist of the film. It was really awkward in a good way such as mummy collection and the dynamites beneath the mansion and the fact that he married to the doctors daughter. They wanted to leave home for Budapest but they beat the man and locked up the woman because hjalmar wanted to use her for his satanic ritual with his followers. Mrs Allison told the daughter of the doctor that his father is here and hjalmar killed her after that. During the satanic ceremony, the doctor with his help kidnapped the woman and wanted to take her out thru a secret exit. But mr Allison being locked up in a weird room managed to get out and saw them. Then mrs Allison told him that his daughter is here and married to hjalmar and they saw her dead body in the mummy basement and doctor went mad and tied up hjalmar to skin him. Mr Allison shot doctor after a misunderstanding when they were looking for the key in the locked room on the dead help. He thought he's attacking his wife and shot her. Both took off and the doctor exploded the dynamites to destroy hjalmar's sick design while bleeding to death. The couple got on the train then to Budapest. It was a very good movie for its time and I liked the actors especially Karloff, Bela Lugosi and Julie bishop.
