One wants to pay. The other wants love.

Warning: Spoilers
Countess Benita Hume doesn't mind paying for the attentions of London head waiter Leslie Howard, and intends to keep him all to herself, even if she has to buy him. But as much as he's sick of his job kissing up to the upper crust, he'd do anything to be a part of it. One night by chance he helps pretty socialite Elizabeth Allen and decides to leave his job without notice to follow her to Austria on a holiday.

By chance, Hume is there and so is a king whom Howard has served in the past. This gives the impression that he is of royal blood himself, and by the time that Allen finds out the truth, it's too late, as she has fallen completely in love with him. But with the countess still around, is the road to love is a curvy one, and this comedy certainly has a lot of curves

Produced by Alexander Korda for Paramount's British division, this has the same theme as many of their Hollywood films, particularly the musicals starring Jeanette MacDonald and Maurice Chevalier. But no songs are needed as this is refreshing, elegant and well acted, with a charming cast and witty dialogue. It may have dated themes, but one thing that does not date is romance, and there's plenty of that abound.
