While it's refreshing to come across an athletics movie that doesn't trot out the tired old cliché of an underdog overcoming great odds to triumph, Leif Tilden's tale of running as a form of catharsis is so overladen with moody teen angst that it's difficult to take to its anguished hero. At least Billy Crudup is on hand to breathe life into his scenes, and Tim Roth's participation is minimal.
