Haunted Ranch (1943)
5/10
The Range Busters, once again, are her to do good and bring justice to the west.
6 April 2020
The Range Busters* come upon a man who was shot and left for dead. The reason is that he's the heir to a nearby ranch and some baddies will stop at nothing to get it for themselves. Additionally, they rig up the place in order to convince folks it's haunted. So, it's up to this trio of do-gooders to figure out who's behind this and bring them to justice.

Aside from casting Fred Toones to play a black man who ALWAYS seems scared (a rather ridiculous and nasty stereotype of the era), the film is pretty typical of the genre...entertaining but also formulaic and familiar. Not a bad film...but also one with little to distinguish it from 10001 other B-westerns of the era.

*The composition of the Range Busters (much like the Three Mesquiteers) changed frequently. This one consists of the familiar Dusty King and Max Terhune with David Sharpe...as well as Max's dummy, Elmer. How anyone thought having Max taking a ventriloquist's dummy on all his Range Buster casaes is beyond me!
