A little cheaper Rothrock outing, but still enjoyable

THE BLONDE FURY is another effort from Hong Kong, featuring Cynthia Rothrock as an ass-kicking cop taking on a criminal organisation. This time around she's working undercover as a reporter. It's a film that mixes together the usual elements of comedy, action and thrills, and the cinematography looks a little cheaper than in true classics like POLICE ASSASSINS. However, it's still a very enjoyable watch, as are all of Rothrock's movies shot in Hong Kong, although perhaps not quite up to classic level.

This one was directed by the lovable Hoi Mang, who also plays one of Rothrock's allies, with martial arts choreography by Corey Yuen. Roy Chiao has a good and funny role as a top lawyer who finds himself drugged and turned 'berserk' by the slimy baddies. There's plenty of crazy action and humour, with the best scenes seeing Rothrock and buddy Chin Siu Ho taking on various henchmen, from a pair of Caucasions to the great Billy Chow who is slightly underutilised. Rothrock focuses on high rise stunts here, with random scenes fighting on bamboo scaffolding, on a giant net (random indeed) and a great stunt of her jumping from a burning first floor. Plenty of familiar faces in the cast in this one, with Wu Ma, Tai Bo, Fat Chung and James Tien all popping up here and there. A good way to spend an hour and a half of your time...
