"She didn't have to die."

Warning: Spoilers
One Wedding and A Funeral was Luke Perry's last time on Beverly Hills, 90210. At least back then that's what we all thought. He left the show in Season 6 when Dylan McKay leaves Beverly Hills after the murder of his new bride, Antonia (Toni) Marchette McKay. However, Dylan made a surprising and much anticipated return in November 1998 when he returned to Beverly Hills after Brandon moved to Washington DC.

In Season 10 everything we believed about the death of Jack McKay was a lie. Up to this point we thought Jack exploded in that car in the parking lot. Every storyline, every memory of Dylan's father always came back to Jack's death. We found out Jack's fiance, Christine, worked for the FBI, but nothing was being done about bringing Jack's killer to justice until Dylan dug into the past and found out Jack's killer was Anthony Marchette. This storyline snowballed quickly to become a climax for Luke Perry's character to leave Beverly Hills because he was leaving the show.

Season 10/Episode 20 we find out Jack McKay is alive and well living in Witness Protection under the name Eddie Waikus with a wife and kids. With this new discovery brought up many unanswered questions that were never addressed before the show ended. Anthony Marchette admitted he killed Jack McKay. So how did Jack survive and Marchette never know? He was called when the attempted hit on Dylan went bust. It is said Anthony Marchette committed suicide after the death of his daughter in Season 6 so he didn't live to discover Jack McKay was alive. I always wondered why did Toni have to die? Dylan had the prolonged love triangle with Brenda and Kelly, but Toni was a fresh new character whose spirit was a nice change of pace from the snobby Kelly or the lovelorn Brenda. We were all rooting for Dylan and Toni to be happy, but that's never the case on an Aaron Spelling drama. Sadly, Toni dies 24hrs after becoming Mrs. Dylan McKay. If the writers knew the direction of the show why did they kill her off? Heaven forbid they let Dylan be happy and leave Beverly Hills behind and enjoy life with his new wife. Dylan told her father, "She didn't have to die", and he was right.
