A familiar theme done well
9 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This is a plot we've seen in more than one movie. A young boy/girl encounters a cantankerous old man/woman. At first there is friction, but then a bond forms; some well meaning busybody tries to break up the relationship but the bond is too strong and the relationship continues; sometimes the old person dies, sometimes the kid just grows up and moves on but we are reminded that that relationship was the making of that kid..... There are, of course, variations on the theme, but the bare bones are pretty much always the same.

This is another movie made in that same mould so, consequently, there is nothing that happens here that is going to surprise you. That being said, this movie does its thing pretty well. A big part of that is that the crusty old person is played by Vanessa Redgrave. Another big part is that Trevor Morgan does a fine job playing the kid. Even though you can guess what's going to happen, this is really quite moving and enjoyable. Well worth a watch!
