Like so many other shows, many by Shonda Rimes, there is so much yelling in this show. I don't know anyone in life that yell at each other like this. And are able to maintain solid relationships. Yelling is destructive and hurtful, and there are times I have to turn this show off because of the screaming.
I don't like the way Olivia speaks - she exaggerates her lips so much that it's distracting. I haven't watched Kerry Washington in anything else. Maybe this is how she normally talks, but it is distracting.
And I have never 'gotten' the relationship between Olivia and Fitz. They are so mean to each other! Yes, they have sex. But that doesn't equate to love. They seem so angry all the time when they are together. Some of the things they have said to each other are things that most people couldn't forgive or get over.
I'm not condoning the relationship, or excusing his cheating on his wife. Or her culpability in the affair. But how many presidents, or common men, cheat. How many women cheat. In today's world, I just don't think this affair would be elevated to the point that this show is making it. Why can't he divorce his wife? They don't love each other. She is as manipulative as he is. She is a shrew. Yes, her husband cheated. But it is obvious he doesn't love her. Why would she want to stay and continue to be embarrassed and abused like that?
Plus, Olivia's emotional tantrums are so fickle. First, she loves Fitz. then she hates him. Then she hops in bed with him. It's like whiplash trying to keep up with her.
Is Quinn really so stupid to believe Charlie? I saw his manipulation from the first minute of his screen time.
This show is supposed to be so modern and so wonderful. But there are parts that are so mundane. There are great actors in this show, and it's disappointing that the show doesn't support them better.
