Review of Late Night

Late Night (2019)
2/10
desperately needs some jokes
30 August 2019
Awful vehicle for Emma Thompson, who should be able to do jokes but kills the very few that are here. Watching her try to segue from unfunny to funny, something that she should do with ease, was distressing and sad, like watching your Dad try to feed himself after a stroke. The arc that should have sent Kate Newbury from villain to hero failed utterly, as Thompson remains just as cruel and distant at the end of the film as she was at the beginning. Mindy Kaling gives it a go I suppose but the beleaguered minority trope is boring from the start and gets more boring with repetition. All in all a dreadful waste of time, I've watched it so you don't have to.
