Review of Rings

Rings (2017)
7/10
Not the typical crappy franchise exploitation movie

This was really good! I had this on my watch list for so long and I didn't watch it before because of the very low rating. Usually ratings are quite misleading but I'm cautious when they go under 5 stars. Luckily this was such a pleasant surprise! In my opinion the cinematography was great, way over average 3rd instalments in movies! The atmosphere and the videos were amazing, I absolutely loved it. The acting was also great, everyone was really good and solid on their roles, Luts (Julia), Galeki (Gabriel), D'Onofrio (Burke) and Roe (Holt) were really great throughout the movie and their characters were solid and made sense, which on these days is highly appreciated in "horror" movies... The story was quite solid and I really liked the ending. It's not a mind blowing script but it makes perfect sense and it goes well with the series. What's all the hate about this movie?! I honestly don't understand the reviews criticising the acting, the ending... I know it's a matter of taste, but honestly, this one definitely deserves your own judgement, I really hate those reviews that simply say "trust me, don't watch this" or "worst movie ever" or phrases like that. Total trolls. One aspect that could be better is the pase, it's a bit slow. It's definitely a slow burner, so don't expect a lot of cheap jump scares because it's not like that (and I'm glad it's not!) but yes, it's a bit too slow at times. Overall great movie, I don't give it a better rating because it's not anything very original, not much new to see here (to be fair that's difficult on a third instalment of a series of movies) and even if the photography is really good, it's nothing spectacular. Definitely a great decent watch for a lazy movie night.
