Thought provoking drama/current affairs

Warning: Spoilers
I feel as if I have watched and summarised several films over the past 12 months that have an element of ethical and religious issues in them.

Here the focus is on the apparent true life chronicle of a 19 year old teenage boy, Jared Eamons and son of a Baptist pastor Marshall Eamons (a portly Russell Crowe) discovering his sexuality and having to confront the strict religious beliefs of his parents with his mother, Nancy Eamons played by Nicole Kidman.

The pastor seeks advice from his elders and sends his son for some kind of conversion treatment at a religious centre to try and "cure" him of his homosexual sexual orientation.

Now here I don't want to pass judgment on any religious beliefs however I didn't know this was widely going on.

The cast all give good performances. The viewer is kept fully interested at the drama that is unfolding before them based on real life memoirs of Garrard Conley in Arkansas, U.S.

The "conversion" camp evoked memories of a borstal camp regime at times, quite shocking. These true life drama films are a good way of spreading current affairs I suppose. I personally didn't know the practice was as widespread in the most powerful country in the world.

The director also wrote and starred in the film, Joel Edgerton. Quite an achievement.
