Not Bad
4 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Bought this on DVD last year in HMV after having a real good comb through the Horror DVD Section. Hidden in a tight corner I found this film, which looked older than what it was given the 90's cover art style. But never round to watching til now.

The film is an analogy type of film with multiple different stories wrapping around a main one. Much like that of VHS's 1-3, ABCs of Death 1-3 or Tales of Halloween, Holidays to even the All Hallows Eve Films. So Galaxy Of Horrors is much like them films only it's set in space.

Now I've never been one for Sci-Fi Films generally, and have never bothered with them regardless of what type genre they've been set in. But since watching 1997s Event Horizon, I've slowly began to like the blend of Horror & Sci-Fi. So when I picked this one up, I knew I had to have it! It was unique looking also & looked like a good watch.

So from watching the 100 minute film I have to say it wasn't bad at all! Pretty good to be honest. Though off in a few areas & a bit difficult to understand, the 8 short stories were good enough & wrapped around the simple story-line of an astronaught trapped in an escape pod.

Here's a run down of the 8 shorts:

1. Eden

This one talks about the apocalypse in Russia (I think). Not to sure exactly what it was about, but it involved a woman who was part of an experiment and then started gnawing people off while the president was going to give his "speech".

I liked this one despite not knowing exactly what the story was about or what was happening as such. But it gory, bloody and pretty sinister all the way!

2. Iris

This one was basically about a new type of Smart Phone that could speak & interact with its users like a human being. A young has killed a woman and is trying to win a competition of some kind, but the "Phone" Isis, threatens to exploit the user & then tries to turn the tables on him.

A pretty straight forward premise. Sinister, twisted & dark in a couple of ways! But pretty good overall.

3. Flesh Computer

A loner of a young man has a half human, half computer in his room. But 2 of his "mates" who bully him, end up being victims to the mans half human, half computer friend.

Not all that of an interesting segment to be fair, but alright for what it was. Hard to get at first, but easy once you knew what it was.

4. Pathos

A man whose been born & raised in a bunker via an attached to a cable from his head, gets to choose different types of emotions & feelings via metal cards through money transactions. But something goes wrong & from bad to worse the man begins to lose his senses which threaten death.

This one was pretty good if not sad as you really felt for the man in this one who was being slowly tortured by this computer who was giving him a time limit in entering codes to give him emotions. Pretty good, but pretty sad at the same time.

5. Eveless

A man who gives birth to an alien like creature.

This one was not great, not very interesting & pretty bland as it didn't last long.

6. They Will All Die In Space

This segment involved a space craft underseige by one of the crew members.

Hard to understand exactly was going on in this one given that the story wasn't obvious or outstanding. It was alright at best. And very bland at worst.

7. Entity

This segment is about an astronaught who gets lost in space & finds herself in an unknown planet.

Again, not to sure on the story because of the blurred narrative. But this one was better to understand than the other segments here.

8. Kingz

A drug deal goes wrong & the drug lord is an android killer who turns out to be some sinister alien creature.

This one was easier to understand, if not more straight forward & not abstract. It was gory & visually great in a lot of areas!

Overall the film was not a bad watch! It had some great moments, some bland, boring I-don't-understand-what-the-hell-is-going-on types of moments. But it was good overall. I'd say I liked most of the segments, but the others could've been better explained & made easier to follow.

Overall 8/10
