The chickens come home to roost
30 November 2018
Sam Peckinpah might had been too drunk when making this movie. Real chickens were harmed. Kris Kristofferson was too old to play Billy the Kid.

James Coburn was even older to be friends with Billy the Kid. Bob Dylan looks like a guy who could not act and much of the movie just meanders.

There is still a lot to praise this revisionist western. It has bursts of violence and at times is beautifully shot. Several people get shot in the back, there was no honour among these men.

It was beautifully evocative as Slim Pickens sheriff is shot while Bob Dylan's Knocking on heaven's gate is on the soundtrack.

In 1881 Pat Garrett (James Coburn) has taken the job of sheriff and tells his old friend Billy the Kid (Kris Kristofferson) that he is out to get him. Billy the Kid with all his charms, ruthlessness and cunning does not seem to realise that he is running out of time.
