A solid opener, which sets the scene well.

You'd be mistaken for judging this episode based on the first thirty minutes, which are slow to the point of being tedious, but my argument is stick with it, as the second half hour gives an insight into what is to come. The drabness of the first half is counter balanced with the dark, gritty exuberance of the second half. This opener is all about setting the scene, introducing the crime, the main characters, DI Cadi John, in particular, we learn about her impressive work attitude and troubled home life. The situation with her poor dad adds a touch of realism, a situation many of us can relate to. The fact that life isn't a rollercoaster ride, you have to do your job and deal with any eventualities as they arrive.

It's hard hitting, we get some scenes of violence, we get some troubling, but very realistic scenes of self harm. So far there's no lighter side to speak of, this is sixty minutes of dark, gritty drama.

Very well acted indeed, the part Welsh production is interesting too, gives it a real Scandi vibe. Breathtaking scenery, like in Keeping Faith I'm sure it will do wonders for visits to Wales.

Dull to begin with, then it opens up incredibly well, 8/10
