Mahanati (2018)
5/10
A story that should have been told a long time ago
28 June 2018
Savitri might have been the first lady superstar of India but each part of her story can be true for a lot of actresses of the bygone era of Indian cinema. Keerthi Suresh is astonishing as Savitri, definitely her career best performance. The 80s setting for the journalists to find out and tell the story of the Mahanati has gone to a waste with Samantha and Vijay Devarakonda who aren't convincing enough and feels out of place. Showing the story of Savitri through the 50s to 70s the makers rarely gives her a human image. It's always that of an ideal image of a naughty, talented and stubborn girl who was born to be a star. There were stuff worth more than 2 or 3 films that aren't explored for the sake of keeping the focus on the glorification of Savitri.
