Review of Joey

Joey (2004–2006)
6/10
Cannot hold a candle to "Friends", but a relaxing-enough sitcom

Warning: Spoilers
Joey Tribbiani is my favorite character on "Friends", but here the writing is not of the same caliber, and he comes across less childlike and more of a jerk. Andrea Anders is cute, sweet and likable; Drea de Matteo is pretty funny and pretty sexy. The production values are decent for a sitcom, although the sets look more fake than those of "Friends". The first few episodes of season 2 give you the false impression that it's going to be better than season 1, but it soon settles into the same kind of mediocrity. Anders' character becomes more one-dimensional and overly dependent on Joey. As for Jimmy, who is introduced in the middle of the second season and becomes a regular until the end, another comment on this page nails it: it's like having Janice in every episode of "Friends". These loud characters are entertaining in small doses only. This show is a pale shadow of its predecessor, but most episodes are a relatively painless way to kill 20 minutes. **1/2 out of 4.
