Best film of 1973 in the Kinema Junpo poll of critics, and deservedly so, the ATG production winning Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actress for Kyoko Enami. When a city woman returns to her remote past partnered with an aloof young boyfriend an absorbing drama unfolds within the close knit fishing community. Cast with a diverse group of characters they build a compelling story, enhance a touching tale. Captured with stunning location filming the human dramas are heightened by the dynamic energy of the natural setting, shaped by natures many moods. With a brief historical note the film is accompanied with traditional shamisen folk song creating a rich atmospheric tone. A beautifully composed classic film, Highly Recommended...
