Tsugaru Jongarabushi, Tsugaru Folksong is a creative outstanding multi faceted drama. Best film of 1973 in the Kinema Junpo poll of critics, and deservedly so, the ATG production winning Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actress for Kyoko Enami. When a city woman returns to her remote past partnered with an aloof young boyfriend an absorbing drama unfolds within the close knit fishing community. Cast with a diverse group of characters they build a compelling story, enhance a touching tale. Captured with stunning location filming the human dramas are heightened by the dynamic energy of the natural setting, shaped by natures many moods. With a brief historical note the film is accompanied with traditional shamisen folk song creating a rich atmospheric tone.
