Review of Who We Are

Supernatural: Who We Are (2017)
Season 12, Episode 22
8/10
Pretty decent Penultimate episode
1 June 2017
This was an eventful and entertaining episode before the Season finale.

We knew the Winchesters would manage to escape their bunker with so many supplies. It was nice to have Sam and Dean reflect on their journey so far and consider how did we end up here? Sam talks about not being scared to be a leader rather than a follower, is this an ironic reference to his character's direction and story lines over the last several seasons? We are slowly starting to see more of these moments between the brothers. Once they escape they decide to answer the fans cries and take out the British Men of Letters (BMOL).

What can be said of the BMOL? They were first just referenced in earlier seasons when Abaddon was introduced and it seemed to work. Despite this it felt this sinister organization was shoved into the Supernatural universe and they never flew but became space fillers. The funny thing is their story could have worked so well in the show had it been introduced early on, even if they had just briefly spoken of them or teamed up with one of their rogue agents to learn about them. Then the battle with them would have really been built up like anything but I knew in those early years they had plenty of juicy ideas planned. However when brought into the fold they were an annoyance and hard to buy into as a group that existed for many years. Their absence for the apocalypse and other events was poorly explained.

It was great for Sam to lead a pack of hunters while an injured Dean took a more sentimental route to bring Mary back. The showdown with the BMOL was very well done with Sam and Jodi. I am so glad they finally killed off their story line (I hope) and blew their headquarters to smithereens. I was so pleased to see Lady Bevell finally killed off as well as Ketch after Mary was brought back. We saw a great moment with Sam, Dean and Mary. The embrace and real reunion we had hoped to see from the beginning of the season.
