"Bank on This" shows what Sanford and Son plan to do with former neighbor Julio's property next door, applying for a loan at the bank to open an apartment building called the Sanford Arms. Loan officer R.L. Phillips (Tom Scott), referred to by Fred as 'Mr. Magnesia,' sets the forms in motion as two strange men enter for the express purpose of holding up the bank (shades of "Dog Day Afternoon"). Al Robinson (Roscoe Orman) orders everyone to hit the deck, while Lamont recognizes his partner Melvin Herman (Charles Thomas Murphy) as a former classmate in algebra. A former cheerleader, Melvin is obviously too kind hearted to make a good crook. When the police agree to send in an officer to discuss terms with Al, it's a half naked Hoppy: "okay, shoot! I mean uh, go ahead!" Fred suggests they break into the safe and let him keep his $1500 loan!
