Quirky late-80s gem from Paul Morrissey
7 September 2016
I love this movie! It's written and directed by Paul Morrissey, who first gained fame as a director for Andy Warhol (Heat, Flesh, Trash, Flesh for Frankenstein, Blood for Dracula). If you know those films and like them, imagine that aesthetic sensibility transposed onto a Rocky-ish or Karate Kid-esque story. The result is a low-budget, campy, funny, ultimately poignant film.

Ernest Borgnine is fantastic and perfect in a supporting role. Some of the acting is bad, but it's entertainingly campy, a la Death Race 2000 or Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.

The soundtrack is mid-80s Italo-disco/pop: Ricchi e Poveri, Pupo, etc. Some people will think it's cheesy, but it's perfect for the movie.
