9/10
Original, fittingly mad and full of delightfully unhinged performances and unexpected ideas.

The film demands a basic knowledge and understanding of the source material and that's what makes this such a fun watch: Angus Macfadyen has turned one of the most seminal characters and stories on its head and, in doing so, has created a brilliant study of madness, obsession and the absurdity of power.

Stylistically it feels like a cross between Orson Welles and David Lynch.

It won't be a film for everyone but then films that (supposedly) are rarely stand the test of time. Macbeth Unhinged is as compulsive as it is uncomfortable to watch. It's sexy, manic, often beautiful, often raw and what makes it great most of all: this is not how you would have interpreted Shakespeare's play.

And certainly not on that shoestring budget and with such a skilled cast.
