As an avid Dad's Army fan I'm always keen to see alternative projects that the cast worked on. I watched the pilot, and quite enjoyed it, I watched the first episode with Clive, and again quite enjoyed it. The more episodes I watched the more I got into it, was interesting to watch it for the fashions, to witness the social climate (anyone easily offended could be perturbed by the non PC attitudes to the barman,) and to witness the wonderful Edward Hardwicke in a comedy role.
Clive Dunn did a good job in making Sam the old School Northerner, throughout both series you laughed with him, at him, felt sorry for him and downright loathed him. I loved Edward Hardwicke throughout, he was great as Sam's serious social climbing son in law Arthur, so often the but of the joke, I'm so used to him in serious roles it was nice to see him let his hair down.
If you enjoy seventies comedy, it's worth a look, not in the same league as Rising Damp or Steptoe and Son, but a good watch nonetheless. 7/10
