It had been ruled that the man died of a heart attack, but Poirot thinks he was poisoned from a box of chocolates he had been given by an aristocrat, Xavier St. Alard.
Great to see Poirot so early in his career with such an interesting mystery, which will seem simple when it's explained. Also there's a hint of romance for Poirot.
