Review of Bewafai

Bewafai (1985)
5/10
A very different Rajanikant
8 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
For a person like me who grew up watching super star Rajanikant's super man like persona and reading all those jokes about his impossible heroism, this movie would be a shocker. Rajani in this movie is very different where plays an overrated supporting role while Rajesh Khanna is the leading man. Rajani's character makes his appearance about 1 hour after the movie starts, has negative shades, kills the hero's parents and even abducts the heroine. While Khanna gets to romance all 3 beauties in the movie, Rajani has no love interest. And in the climax, he loses a sword fight to Kaka! The redemption for his character comes only in the last 2 scenes, but Rajani still leaves his mark with a stylized performance. Rajesh Khanna looks a little aged to be singing duets with girls half his age, but gives a seasoned performance in a character where he has nothing new to offer. All three leading ladies look pretty, but Meenakshi is easily the best. Music is a let down.
