"The Flash is Born" is an episode which develops the characters much further especially Barry. The show is known for using clever tactics such as using "flash"backs to furthermore advance the narrative and develop the characters in such a fast paced show.

The episode kicks off with The Flash heading face to face with a familiar face who seems to have been formed into a meta-human just like him. It turns out coincidentally, the man whom Barry faced is his childhood bully. Yet again we are treated with flashbacks in which I have to say, works well in the series. A troubled Barry then has to face him with mixed emotions which is caused by his on and off relationship by Iris. It's a simplistic plot, yet it delivers well enough to keep you engaged in your seat. The visuals as usual, were outstanding. Whenever the Flash is at his utmost speed, or they show us a slow motion scene, it is downright cool to see. The action sequences were thrilling, but with some minor inconsistencies with the Flash's abilities that won't be a problem unless they continue throughout the series. However with the pros proving to be effective, the flaws start to arise yet again. Iris remains to be this underdeveloped and sometimes just downright unlikeable character. She's treated as a damsel in distress in the episode and if this continues in more and more episodes, I might even stop watching because it's already going to be predictable on what's going to happen next. The antagonist did not have that "wow" factor. At the start of the episode, he appears to be stronger than the Flash then the episode progresses and they learn stuff about him and they defeat him. This is an ongoing formula in the show that will sooner or later become ineffective and become repetitive.

Overall, light-hearted, entertaining, but the flaws may or will drag the show down. +Clever use of flashbacks in order to develop characters, +Simplistic narrative but delivered well, +Action and visuals remain outstanding, +Dr. Wells mystery and involvement in Barry's Mom's death, -Iris, -The Antagonist and possibly future antagonists if not improved on, -The formula for each episode might sooner or later become ineffective.

Verdict: 7.7/10
