A beautiful movie...
11 May 2014
"Hello Stranger" ("Kuan meun ho") is not your average Thai movie. Why? Well, there is no martial arts here and no spooky ghosts in white dresses. But "Hello Stranger" does prove that there are more to Thai cinema than martial arts and horror, because this romantic comedy really is a nice and beautiful movie.

The story is set in Korea, where two strangers meet by sheer luck, both of them being from Thailand and both of them being heartbroken in ways. Without knowing each others names, they end up traveling together and becoming close.

The comedy in "Hello Stranger" was not the type of comedy that will have you spilling your drinks while tears streak down your cheeks from laughing. No, the comedy is subtle, but yet to the point, serving the movie quite nicely.

The movie is resting on the shoulders of the two lead performers, and they really did carry the movie quite well together and individually. And there is a good chemistry between the two.

There is a nice continuous flow to the movie, and the character development is great. You get to know slightly more and more about the two characters, yet you never get to know their real names. And that was really a great accomplishment from the directors side.

"Hello Stranger" is a beautiful movie, and it is well worth a watch if you enjoy Asian cinema and want to have a break from horror and martial arts, which tends to be the main focus when thinking of Asian cinema (of course, I am generalizing here).
