Better than Cars

The review: After skimming a few reviews, it seemed by and large that this would not be a great movie. I didn't love "Cars" and my daughter and I both left "Cars 2" before it was even done. That being said, I was hoping this was not too "Cars"esque. It was a movie enough of it's own to be good. It did have the "Cars" feel since it is from the "Cars" world. This movie doesn't have as much of a bond with the characters as many PIXAR movies, but maybe that's because the characters are vehicles, or the writing just doesn't do the job. This had a kind of short run time for a PIXAR movie so we don't get much of a backstory and Dusty (Dane Cook) only spends a few minutes before he's training to be a racer. The story is unoriginal and the characters are very similar to the characters in "Cars".

The difference in this movie, is that it's about planes, and the planes are flying much of the time. I felt like the "Cars" movies were boring because much of the movies involved cars driving slowly around and talking. There's not as much of that in this film. There's a lot of racing, a lot of action, and a lot of flying by cool scenery. And although it wasn't a great movie, just talking about it makes me want to go re-watch some of the scenes now. It is very predictable however, and the whole relationship and backstory with the Skipper feels forced and unauthentic.
