Interesting view of politics. The "uncle" returns, recently released from Stalin's gulags, to burst the idealistic bubble about their socialist paradise. I love the views of old Paris. Galloping through the surf with Mont St Michel in the background - classic! A few nitpicks on the story - the boyfriend does not go "cover" the war in Indochina; he accepts enlistment in the French Foreign Legion as an alternative to jail after the father files a statutory rape complaint. (Apparently, the only criminal complaint that cannot be withdrawn once it is made, in the French justice system.)
Possession of this movie in the USA and several other civilized countries will net you jail time, due to kiddie porn laws. Like many French movies, this has at least one adult scene. The depiction of a girl who is supposed to be 15 in the movie with visible bare breasts, in bed with a man... Clear violation of US law. Does not matter the actress was in reality of age. Art meets law...
