The Jay Pritchett sandwich
4 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Things are a bit hectic at the Dunphys. Alex is preparing for a presentation at her school for her art class. She has decided to stage a replica of a Norman Rockwell's painting showing a family gathered around the table for what looks like a Thanksgiving dinner. For that, she enlists the help of Cameron. He arrives with Lili, who has a thing about light switches.

Luke is going to receive a medal at school for putting out a fire, that he started. Manny, who saw the whole thing, is horrified at the way his "nephew" can lie about it. Phil, on the other hand, wants to tell Mitch, in a polite way, his services to the agency are no longer needed. There is no way Mitch wants to accept in being fired for a job we was not being paid.

Meanwhile, Jay has taken Gloria to one of his favorite places for a sandwich. In the back of the menu there are different kinds of sandwiches named after the deli's regulars. Maxine, an old time waitress comes to chat with Jay, leaving Gloria out of the conversation which centers around Jay's neck problems. Needless to say, Gloria does not like the sandwich.

Gail Mancuso directed this episode which was written by Elaine Ko, Jeffrey Richman and Bill Wrubel. The most interesting point is Luke's attitude. He decides not to tell everyone about what really happened while he and Manny were practicing in the lab and how he almost could have caused a fire. It is a bad example he is setting, but he prefers to be recognized for showing valor, when it was his negligence that caused the incident, in the first place. Beth Grant makes a guest appearance as Maxine, the wise old waitress.
