Late one night, a mysterious car is brought into the Chicago police impound garage after a deadly traffic accident...
This film comes from writer Benjamin Carr. How much his idea translated well on the screen I suppose is a matter of debate. But Carr is an experienced writer. He has over 30 projects under his belt, including some Hellraiser sequels, the "13 Ghosts" remake and one of my favorite films -- "Head of the Family". So, if I have to fault anyone, I am not blaming Carr.
But someone must be blamed... because this film just came up short. A good idea, some gore, some action, a decent cast (Oded Fehr is great). But it just did not hold my attention as well as it should have, and I nodded off a few times. And the very premise of a squid that can mimic a car? That makes no sense. An alien maybe or an evil creation from a mad scientist... but not this.
And how does it compare to "Christine" or "Maximum Overdrive"? Well, it just does not come close. "Christine" is a modern classic and "Overdrive" is bad, but bad in such a way that you have to love it (if you can see it in a theater full of horror fans, the experience will never be forgotten). This one... I do not see it going anywhere but into the memory hole. Sorry.
