THE LAST EXORCISM – CATCH IT (B+) I think, if a movie leave you Dazed and Confused, its kind of worth (B+) rating. The Last Exorcism left me Google for hrs in search of the answers from the makers. WTF just happened in the End? And Why? The Last Exorcism is a latest venture into the long list of handy cam style film making like Cloverfield, Quarantine and Paranormal Activity Franchise. The movie starts with a Reverend (Patrick Fabian) documenting his Last Exorcism and telling the documenters that how fake is Demons and Exorcism thing. He uses to practice all this just so he can feed his family but ever since he read about deaths during the Exorcism he has refuse to do Exorcism anymore. This time he will be doing his Last Exorcism, just to show how fake actually it is. After that he goes to Louisiana and meets Nell (Ashley Bell) and his family (Dad & Brother). Then the whole movie takes a humors take on the Exorcism and shows how Exorcism can be done totally with fakeness without the people knowing at all. Till then the concept of Revered was coming true that there are no demons at all but when they left Nell's house and stay at the motel, in the middle of the night Reverend sees Nell in his room acting totally Bizarre. He calls up his documenter friends and takes her to hospital. Now the things get really tense and I as an Audience left in oblivion that what to believe now? Whether she is possessed Or Schizophrenic? Later, when reverend visit their house they found Caleb (Nell' brother)'s mouth cut open with Knife, his dad takes him to hospital and Caleb leaves a note to Reverend that "Don't leave her Alone with Dad". Now, Nell is left alone with the Reverend & his team. Reverend receives a call from hospital mentioning that Nell is pregnant. (Twisted) after that till the second Exorcism, I was 100% convinced that Nell (Ashley Bell)'s father is Incest and she is Possessed but I was proved wrong after 2nd Exorcism when Nell(Ashley Bell) tell reverend that she had Sex with a Boy name (Logan) & she was very ashamed of it as a Christian. (At that point I found the whole thing really Lame and weird), So, it means she needs psycho therapy? On return Ravened accidentally meets up Logan, who tells him that he only once talk to Nell & He is Gay. Now, Reverend turns back to her house and hears Nell's screams from the woods, when he follows the screams he sees Nell (Ashley Bell) on table and her father tied to the Tree by the local Church ministers and his disciples, and then she gives birth to something which is not Human at all. (She didn't look pregnant at all the entire time). They burn the newly born child (Satan I Believe) in fire and fire rose extremely High making Satan shape and noises. The reverend take the crucifix and runs towards it. (He finally Believes on Demons). The other documenters were hunted and killed by Caleb (Nell's Brother). (Twisted) The purpose of writing the entire story is to actually ask QUESTIONS & Give ANSWERS!!! So,
(1) Was Nell actually Possessed or Schizophrenic?
(2) Were the Local Church was Satan worshipers? And her father was the only One against it?
(3) The Ravened (Patrick Fabian) was Consciously chosen because he is a Non-Beleiver of Demon's existence? (4) Caleb (Brother) was part of the Church's Satan activities as in the middle Nell says that Her brother took their mother's death really hard and he doesn't Believe on God anymore? So, was Nell (Ashley Bell) was also part of the Satan Church as she was really close to her brother or she is just a Victim? ANSWERS: According to the Director "Daniel Stamm", her brother is part of the group and maybe she is too that's for people to figure out, there are little clues in the movie throughout. According to Producer "Eli Roth", the town's Church was a Satan Worshipers and that's why their father took Nell & Caleb from Church School because he didn't like all that! So, the church knew about the Ravened anti-Demon antics so, they wanted to show Him and teach Him a Lesson. I Believe that Caleb & Nell were part of Satan's Activities because God took their Mother after successful cancer operation, but maybe I am Wrong. Overall I can say if a movie Kept you captivating & Dazed in the end, its kind of Worth it! Give Time and thought to it, it needs time, in hurry you will miss all the Minute details. P.S Patrick Fabian, Ashley Bell, Caleb Landry Jones and Louis Herthum were INCREDIBLE in making all this Believable. Kudos, Ashley Bell did all the bends and contortions of her body on her own. No special effects were used - she has Hypermobility. Superb!
