Faith No More..

Warning: Spoilers
When a friend of mine told me that they had recently watched this film, and that they had found the film and its ending to be terrible.I felt that it was best that I watch the Blu-Ray/DVD of the film, that I had recently picked up as soon as possible,in case it was as bad as he said!!.And though the film is damaged by a very disappointing ending,I still feel that the movie has a good amount of thrilling moments. The plot:

Since the very tough battle that he and his wife had to face, with his son almost dying due to being born to early. Evangelical priest Cotton Marcus has decided to retire from preaching, since he has been losing faith in his old beliefs. Before he reties,Cotton has a film crew following him around, filming a documentary about him. With them around,Marcus decides to take them along with him on his last ever exorcism (his father claims that he himself ,has done a 150 exorcism)When Cotton and the film crew go to visit the family, who claim that their daughter has become possessed by a devil.Marcus originally thinks that the family are suffering from some deep psychological problems (especially since the mother has died three years ago.)So Cotton shows the film crew, that he is going to do a smoke-and-mirror's "con job" exorcism,to make the family believe that he has got rid of the demon,so that they will be able to at last face there real problems. But what Marcus and the film crew do not expect,is that this devil is far from imaginary...

View on the film:

Through out the whole film, the performance of Patrick Fabian as Cotton Marcus (not Marcus Cotton?) was the main driving force that kept me griped with the film.As the story progresses, and shows that perhaps his original assumptions of this case are very wrong,Fabian makes the gradual acceptant of Marcuses belief in the demon, very natural and surprisingly pretty easy to understand the characters struggles.Whilst director- editor Daniel Stamm and screenwriters Huck Botko and Andrew Gurland do a good job at turning the film into a surprisingly entertaining mock documentary thriller, which features strong suggestion of a demonic possession in a very minimal and realistic way, which really gave me a strong feel of unease, due to how realistic the "documentary" looks and feels.Sadly, the film makers seem to have decided to put any sense of the building tension in the film, straight into the bin for the last fifteen minutes of the film. The sudden change in the pace and narrative of the film (which include "possessed fire"that features some noticeable pixilation)Causes the film to go from a very entertaining mock documentary thriller, into something that seems to be gasping to shock the audience, which sadly just leads to disappointment.

Final view on the film:

A very entertaining film, with clever thrills and a gripping style, that is ruined by a awful ending that does not suite the film at all.
