8/10
Not bad, but not the best

Season 4 is a great season. Most of its episodes are outstanding. A few aren't but they're still good. New Kid on the Block is one of the latter. In it, a woman and her teenage daughter Laura move next door to the Simpsons and Bart develops a crush on Laura. She's cool (but polite to adults) but she's not interested in the younger Bart, and goes out with the bully Jimbo Jones instead. Bart's heart is broken and seeks to break up the couple, which he does.

By season 4 the makers of The Simpsons really figured out how to make people laugh and a result is that New Kid on the Block is funny, poking fun at Homer's gluttony, Bart's hopeless crushes, Barney's alcoholism, and typical teenagers. Still, Bart breaking up the couple was kind of pointless seeing as how Bart still couldn't go out with Laura; the age difference was too significant. The episode merely ends with Laura saying she would go out with Bart if he were old enough. Also, if Jimbo Jones is a teenager, why does he go to Springfield Elementary School? I guess that's the kind of thing the writers don't want you thinking too much about. And, those thoughts aside, we can laugh.
