Oliver Twist is based on one of Dickens' most famous novels. Many versions have made it to the silver screen and TV; this version may just be the most remembered...with Dickie Moore playing the role of Oliver. Oliver being an orphan at a very early age is forced to live in a workhouse and must survive on meager rations. He manages to escape and make his way to the streets of London. Without money and very hungry, he is befriended by a gang of pickpockets. Once again the young boy is put to work, but this time he is paid a small sum. Oliver does have a conscience and knows right from wrong. The young orphan is rescued by a kind hearted gentleman of wealth Mr. Brownlow(Alec B. Francis). There are still adventures awaiting for the lovable lad. This film tries to make a social comment, exposing methods of society's way of dealing with the poor. Others in the cast: Irving Pichel, William Boyd, Doris Lloyd, Barbara Kent, Sonny Ray and Lionel Belmore.
