Geum-ja Lee, a beautiful and sweet 19-year-old girl,is arrested for kidnapping and murdering the 6-year-old boy Won-mo. After a 13-year of imprisonment, she is released and starts seeking revenge on Baek, her ex English teacher and boyfriend, who was the real Won-mo's killer.
Trying to fix her life as well as plotting her vengeance, Geum-ja will need the support of former inmates from prison to successfully achieve her goal.
'Chinjeolhan geumjassi' is a good movie about vengeance, being artistically great and with great visual effects. The only problem is that it is a movie full of metaphors for many things and acts, and sometimes I felt a little lost of what was the intention of the character in doing a specific act (like when Geum-ja, in the end of the movie, throws her face into the cake, or when she sees Won-mo's spirit at the bathroom and he throws the cloth into her mouth and walks away).
After watching 'Oldboy'(who I personally find a GREAT movie) I wasn't so impressed with ' Lady Vengeance's plot, and I think that when you compare any of the movies of the vengeance's trilogy, Oldboy is the only one that is truly great, but Lady Vengeance deserves some credit too. I personally enjoyed the scene where all parents and Geum-ja make justice with their own hands on Baek.( I think all those child abusers and killers should suffer a lot before dying, like what happened to Baek) If you are watching the vengeance trilogy or want a good movie about vengeance, this one is recommended. Just not forget to watch Oldboy too!
Ps: That scene with the kids suffering and being filmed is one of the strongest in the movie and one of the most realistic as well. I can only imagine the terrible pain that is for the parents to see their own children dying.
Ps2: Does anyone else besides me felt the mouth watering with the beautiful cakes and pies that were shown in this movie?
