reincarnation gone seriously bad

Dear reader, please appreciate my efforts on your behalf. I stay away from writing comments on films I disliked, but just for you I saw Karan Arjun again so I could write a factual review.

A loving mother Durga (Rakhee) and her two super loving sons (the Khan duo of SRK and Salman) live an idyllic life that seems to consist of lots of running to grab mother's feet, sleeping with their heads in her lap. Did I mention GROWN loving sons? Cut to the mystery of their heritage, they are the grandsons of a rich Zamindar who is in the clutches of an evil relative, Durjan Singh (a particularly bug eyed Amrish Puri). The Zamindar wants to make the twins his heir, but the evil Durjan Singh has other plans. BTW, can any one with the name Durjan be good? Did his parents plan his future when they gave him that name? Durjan pursues and kills Karan (Salman) and Arjun (SRK) and the heroes are gone just like that. But the mother prays to the Goddess Kali and asks that her children be reborn - and they are, as Ajay and Vijay, in two separate families. Ajay romances the buxom Sonia (Kajol) while Vijay is pursued by the equally buxom Bindiya (Mamta Kulkarni). Durjan's son wants to marry Sonia, tries to kill Ajay, eventually Sonia is spirited away to Malakheda - where Durjan Singh lives. All this while Ajay and Vijay have flashbacks of their past life and eventually meet, discover their past and go to Malakheda to try and rescue Sonia and help their "mother".

What is good about this film? Well, let me think, HM, some cool horseback riding, Johny Lever maybe? You know one has scraped the bottom of the barrel when Johny becomes a plus.

The negatives: SRK, Salman, Kajol are completely wasted in this silly movie. There are songs that are so horrible and have some of the worst choreography in memory - Bhangra Pale, Yeh Bandhan to, Jaati Hoon Main are all quite atrocious. But the crown jewel is the Jai Kali Maa song. It has to be seen to be believed. If you have avoided KA up to this point then go view this song just to see how stars do not a film make. You might also appreciate the director's efforts to balance the buxom factor in the two leading ladies!!

Something needs to be said about the acting. Salman is sort of less beady eyed than I have ever seen him, but maybe because he is not acting either. Shahrukh is pretty bad too, in a role that has no scope for any kind of acting. Kajol is awful and is probably very glad that she spent most of her time in a locked room in the film. One hear rumors that Ajay Devgan was to do the role of Arjun but things didn't work out and SRK got the role - this caused a rift between the two. If I were Ajay, I would be SRK's lifelong friend for his help in escaping from acting in this movie. There is a bad guy who keeps saying "What a joke", Amrish Puri is so bug eyed you wonder why the eyes didn't just roll out of their sockets at some point. There are fight scenes that could have been planned and written by either Laurel and Hardy or students in second grade.

The movie was a huge blockbuster. But after the recent success of Dhoom 2, mine not to question why, mine not to seek reply, mine just to avoid or die.
