A welcome departure
6 June 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Unlike a lot of reviewers, I'm not a die-hard L of G fan who attended a special screening but a regular cinema goer who appreciates their 'brand'. Some of the criticism that has been levelled against the film is that it isn't a 90 minute version of the TV programme but a departure into new territory. That for me made it all the more enjoyable. I wouldn't say it was the best film I've ever seen but it was funny more often than not, cleverly written with some interesting departures including a 17 century subplot with some unexpected nods to Ray Harryhausen!! If you like your humour dark and at times Pythonesque then this is the film for you.
