Review of Yeah Right!

Yeah Right! (2003 Video)
10/10
A New Classic

Spike Jonze comes in to direct yet another Girl video. He truly shines with his over the top skits. Almost all of the Girl riders make an appearance, except for Guy Mariano who might as well stay at home and live off of board royalties like the leech that he is. Best part is a toss up here between McCrank, Koston, Carroll, and Marc Johnson. Any one of the four could take it, but I'm leaning towards Koston/Johnson due to the level of innovation from both. A great soundtrack goes a long way towards making a video good or bad, and this video does not disappoint. Everything from Bowie, to a quick Public Enemy cameo (along with Owen Wilson). Marc Johnson takes the award for funniest skit, it ties in with his first Chocolate board graphic, and it's hilarious.

This video is different from others released recently in that it's not all hammers and rails and whatnot. While there are a fair amount of rail tricks in this video, a lot of the focus is on tech tricks, something not seen much in this heyday of rail ams. This video is a breath of fresh air.

On a downside, as I previously mentioned, Guy Mariano has ONE trick. One. He last appeared in a video 4 years ago, with the Chocolate tour. He had 4 years to film for this video, and get got one trick. The footage looks old too. There's absolutely no excuse for him not having a full part. Anyone who has seen his part in Mouse will see this as the biggest disappointment of the video. Among other disappointments, Rick Howard doesn't have a full part either, but has a fair amount of footage.

The skits in this video surpass the skits in Mouse tenfold. They are hilarious. Once you see the no-board skit, you won't be able to stop laughing. They didn't photoshop the boards out, they green-screened them out. Hence the bucket of green boards on the back of the tape box. Also watch for tricks in the video with green/blue screened kicker ramps. Its funny the first few times, and then you sorta start wishing that they hadn't done it.

Overall, I'd say this is a 9/10. It would get the extra star if Mariano had a full part, or even a few more tricks. (no Sheffey footage either, but he was in jail)
