The power in the original Anne Frank was in the fact that it was based upon Anne's actual diary. This version is not from her diary. I feel the spirit of Anne was present in the original but not so much here. This movie was very realistic but not better. Realism and detail is not always better. The original was almost mystical and much more idealistic which actually made it closer to the human heart. This film plays much more to horror and sympathy and our version of reality and less to the higher ideals of humanity and Anne herself. Read her book: Diary of Anne Frank.
