Review of Cupid

Cupid (1998–1999)
Cancelled, but will NEVER be forgotten.
6 December 2001
It would be rather redundant for me to go on about how good this show really was. The comments already mentioned here echo my feelings. It is an absolute CRIME that this show was canceled. I originally saw the first episode immediately after being disappointed with the remake of "Fantasy Island" when they first aired back-to-back. The TV was literally about to go off when I heard Jeremy Piven's Cupid character make a very clever joke. It was enough to keep me watching. And I did just that right down to the very last episode.

ABC had already canceled "Timecop," based on the movie and comic of the same name. While that show was not great, it did not deserve cancellation. When ABC pulled the plug on "Cupid," I knew that they simply have no idea what *good* television is all about.

Paula Marshall continued her track record of starring on shows that get canceled within the first season (see also "Snoops" and "The Flash.") She is a gifted actress and is NOT picking the wrong material by any means. She is for some reason quite unlucky, and this is indeed a shame because I miss her performances terribly.

"Human," the opening song by "The Pretenders" was a better song than most for a television program. Luckily it was finally released in stores...it only took a YEAR to get it out. More bad timing. Songs can easily boost morale (READ: ratings!) for a television show.

Greetings to "Cupid's" Overseas fans from the United States! As you have already seen, Americans can create marvelous art! We can also make some very stupid artistic decisions. Canceling "Cupid" was easily one of the biggest.
