Read the blimmin' book!!
13 November 1999
First, let me just say that Deepwater is actually based on a trilogy of books (Deepwater Black, Deepwater Landing & Deepwater Angels) by a fantastic New Zealand sci-fi writer Ken Catran. The credits for his name roll by WAY too quickly. And I apologise in advance for any fans of the show, since I know how annoyed I get when other people bash the shows I like with petty accusations, but... well, I tried to give it a chance, I really did. But I felt really let down after reading the books (DO go and read them). Apart from the character names, the ship's name, and other such names, the whole STORYLINE is different... the whole issue of prexing is reversed. After a few episodes I couldn't take the weakish plots, the kinda of gaudy special effects and the so-so acting any longer. Reb is NOTHING like how he's supposed to be. Even his HAIR is different from how it's described in the book. So, to sum it up, if you don't really have anything more important to do for half an hour, then watch Deepwater. But PLEASE just read the books by Ken Catran. They show the true story, they are actually challenging, interesting, there is a POINT, the character's relationships actually develop! Don't be put off by these TV series... and I hope they re-make the series or a movie based on the REAL plot soon!
