One way to win Dua Lipa’s heart? Be down to split a tray of oysters with her. “Hell yeah! My kind of girl,” she exclaimed as we dug into the popular L.A. restaurant Gjelina’s lengthy menu in search of plates to share for lunch. “We should definitely get some oysters.”
Like the order we put in that day, Lipa was generous with juicy album and life details as well as a number of personal recommendations during our chats for her February cover story. From more info on...

“How many of you remember Asl Barbie?” Deaf West Theatre artistic director DJ Kurs signed from the stage at Westwood’s Regency Village Theatre last Thursday night, referring to Sign Language Barbie, which Mattel released in 2000. “Her hand was permanently stuck in the ‘I love you’ hand shape. Can you imagine how awkward that would be in real life? Like if she waved to the Ups driver, she would be like, ‘I love you?’”
The audience giggled as Kurs continued. “But seriously, that was a landmark moment back in those days. Barbie, using sign language, was in every store 20 years ago,” he said. “And tonight we celebrate a similar landmark: Children all across the country will be able to tune into the Asl version of Barbie the movie.”

At the end of a Los Angeles screening of “Barbie” December 14, many in the buzzing crowd didn’t applaud. Instead, they twisted their hands in the air, the American Sign Language gesture for Applause, in praising Deaf Asl performer Leila Hanaumi.
The audience watched Hanaumi perform “Barbie” dialogue in Asl for the entirety of its near two-hour runtime, but even better was they saw the actress larger than life, overlaid on the movie screen.
Hanaumi’s performance was part of an Asl version of “Barbie” that debuts today on Max, alongside the English language original. Hanaumi, a Deaf actress and Asl interpreter, can be seen in the corner of the screen, signing and translating into Asl throughout the movie and interpreting every role in an effort to make the year’s biggest blockbuster accessible for the widest possible audience.

Trent Reznor recently revealed that he “teared up” when listening to a Dua Lipa song. Now, the Nine Inch Nails frontman has identified the song in question: her 2020 hit, “Levitating.”
The original comment was made on Rick Rubin’s podcast, Tetragrammaton, when Reznor shared that he had reassessed his opinion that pop music “sucks generally” after he heard his daughter singing along to one of Lipa’s songs. “She is so into it and it is so cool,” he explained. “It really reminded me of the art of writing a well-crafted song — I teared up listening to a Dua Lipa track, because it was just a really well-done piece of music, you know?”

Duran Duran launched their 2023 “Future Past North American Tour” at Napa Valley’s BottleRock Festival on Saturday, May 27th.
To kick off their headlining set, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame group quickly dispatched several of their biggest hits, including “Hungry Like the Wolf,” “Notorious,” and “A View to a Kill.” In a career-spanning sequence befitting the ethos behind their 2021 LP, Future Past, the band reached as far back as their 1981 debut single “Planet Earth,” while touching on key eras with tracks like 1984’s “The Reflex,” 1993’s “Ordinary World,” and their latest LP’s “Anniversary.”
The night also included the first live rendition of the Future Past duet “Give It All Up” with Tove Lo, who performed with the band and separately earlier in the day. Following 1981’s “Girls on Film” as the main set’s closer, the band returned with a double Rio encore of “Save a Prayer” and the iconic title track.

Dua Lipa has shared “Dance the Night,” her new song off the soundtrack to Greta Gerwig‘s Barbie. Give it a listen below.
As you might expect, “Dance the Night” is a shimmering disco number. “I stay on the beat, you can count on me/ I ain’t missing no steps,” the artist sings, as classic strings and funky bass soar. The track immediately clocks as the instrumental from the film’s newly released trailer, so you know it’s going to play a big part in the movie of the summer. Even its music video fits into the Barbie Land, with Lipa dancing on top of a feathery high heel and Gerwig herself making a cameo at the end.
Dua Lipa joins the likes of Lizzo, Haim, Charli Xcx, and Tame Impala in performing on the Barbie soundtrack, which drops on July 21st, the same day as the movie.

The four panelists on “The Masked Singer” are having a hard time narrowing down the identity of the secret celebrity hiding inside the Medusa costume. The snake-haired villainess performed a pitch-perfect rendition of “Happier Than Ever” during the season premiere and left the judges “speechless.” She returned in Episode 2 with “Dancing Queen” and won the crown yet again. Medusa then performed “New York, New York” in Episode 3, but lost the vote to California Roll, however she was saved by the “Ding Dong Keep It On” Bell and won the comeback competition. She then advanced from the quarter-finals and the semi-finals, which means she will appear in the season finale. Do You know who she is? Read on for the judges’ “The Masked Singer” Medusa guesses.

Tove Lo washed away the pop production on four songs that originally appeared on her latest album Dirt Femme to create an intimate collection titled Dirt Femme (Stripped). The EP features new renditions of “No One Dies From Love,” “Suburbia, “Grapefruit,” and “Pineapple Slice.”
“You’ve asked me for an acoustic album so I thought… why shouldn’t I give you what you want?” Tove Lo wrote in a press release. To sweeten the deal, the singer added an acoustic version of her latest release “Borderline,” which arrived a few months after Dirt Femme.

For the first eight seasons of “The Masked Singer,” if a contestant didn’t receive enough votes to qualify for the next round, they would be forced to unmask and reveal their true identity in front of America. Season 9, however, introduced a new twist known as the “Ding Dong Keep It On” Bell. This allowed the panelists to save an eliminated singer by ringing a bell. During the April 26 episode, saved contestants Medusa, Gargoyle and Mantis competed to make history on “The Masked Singer” and be the first person ever to re-enter the competition, and Medusa prevailed.
Medusa’s triumph wasn’t much of a surprise. After all, the audience went absolutely crazy after she belted out “Mercy” on Wednesday’s show. “I felt very emotional just singing this song, and to have this reaction, I’m gonna replay this in my mind forever,” she stated through tears.

Tove Lo has always been a little dirty. Her brand of pop music — sharp and catchy — comes with a touch of darkness and grime to it. She made her debut with “Habits (Stay High),” a hangover of a single about willingly succumbing to all your vices to get over your heartbreak.

“I’m an attention wh***,” repeats Tove Lo in a robotic monotone on her fifth album, Dirt Femme. Bang on brand for the 34-year-old Swede born Ebba Tove Elsa Nilsson, whose sad, confessional bangers once saw her hailed as “the world’s most brutally honest pop star”. So the narratives are dependably punchy through this record, and they’re carried by solidly danceable Eighties and Nineties club beats. Not an original sound, then. But one that allows her more challenging or subversive thoughts to slide slyly into a night out on the town.
Thematically, Lo is always trying to square her bold, feminist, exhibitionist streak (which saw her bare her breasts on stage at Glastonbury) with the anxiety and self-doubt that left her struggling with an eating disorder for five years. Commanding songs such as “Attention Wh***” (on which she demands “keep your eyes on me” while California rapper Channel...

Tove Lo is describing the rubber dildo she wore in the Nevada desert. “It was this art piece, and I was so honoured to put it on,” says the Swedish pop Svengali. “It was basically a corset with this kind of… dick attached.” She scrunches her expression, as if that’s not quite correct. “A dick-thong… belt?” She gives up. “It was a strap-on, pretty much.”
In the visual for “2 Die 4”, a track from her fifth album Dirt Femme, Lo wanted to depict masculinity and femininity all at once. Or, as she puts it: “Wonder Woman with big dick energy”. So she slipped on a bodysuit and that bulbous gold member, ignored the early morning chill in the air and the tourists on the horizon, and set about strutting. How did she feel? “I would say…” She smiles. “I felt powerful.”
