Mark Wahlberg will fire up the minivan again, returning as a government assassin turned suburban dad in a sequel to “The Family Plan.”
Apple Original Films announced that the follow-up is in development with Wahlberg set to produce, as well as act in the picture. His co-stars Michelle Monaghan, Zoe Colletti and Van Crosby will also reprise their roles as the various members of the Morgan family with Simon Cellan Jones, director of the action-comedy, set to return.
Critics mostly hated on “The Family Plan,” but audiences appeared to embrace it. Apple in a breathless announcement devoid of things like meaningful data said that the film was “the most viewed movie in Apple TV+ history.” It was later supplanted by the George Clooney and Brad Pitt action-comedy “Wolfs,” which the service, with a similar lack of statistical evidence, recently enthused had taken the “most viewed movie in Apple TV+ history” crown.

In what might be his biggest starring role in years since he was let go from the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise, Johnny Depp will star alongside Penélope Cruz in an action thriller for Lionsgate and director Marc Webb, the studio announced on Monday.
Depp and Cruz are teaming up on screen for what will be the fourth time in a thriller called “Day Drinker.” They previously starred together in “Blow,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” and “Murder on the Orient Express.”

Each week, we handpick a selection of stories to give you a snapshot of trends, updates, business moves, and more from around the creator industry. This week, gun-loving creators are getting fired up, and experienced digital media execs are getting hired up.
Creator commotion
After YouTube’s latest firearm video crackdown, some creators have had enough. At least four channels in YouTube’s firearms community have announced moves to new platforms in response to a crackdown on machine gun videos and sponsored clips that market guns. This isn’t the first time YouTube has found itself at odds with firearms enthusiasts. Maybe this time, the aggrieved creators will take my advice and move to Pornhub.

As major releases continue to hit big screens, 2024 is shaping to be an important year for showbiz and the box-office. Countless conversations continue to cover pandemic recovery, nevertheless, Hollywood now has another pebble in its shoe – can it weather the aftermath of the 2023 Screen Actors Guild and Writers Guild of America strikes? So far, things seem to be picking up slowly, but not necessarily at the box-office.
Although the year has seen bright spots early on—like the success of Dune: Part Two—there have also been a slew of disappointments. While films like Madame Web and Furiosa managed to break even on the back of their production costs alone, they did ultimately become part of the financial disappointments when marketing expenses—which now run the risk of equalling the film’s production costs—are taken into account.

Dennis Villeneuve’s Dune and Dune: Part 2 was a massive success at the box office. Based on Frank Herbert’s novels, the first two movies adapted the first novel in the series and focused on the character of Paul Atreides.

With Dune: Part Two performing impressively at the box office, grossing $714.4 million, a third film was evident. Moreover, the third chapter in the series will adapt the second novel, Dune: Messiah, and be a perfect conclusion to Paul Atreides’ journey.

Horror, martial arts, sci-fi and more – here’s our pick of 35 genre films you can watch for free on Tubi.
Like any streaming service, particularly of the ad-supported variety, there’s a lot of filler on Tubi, the subscription-free platform which recently made its debut in the UK.
On there you’ll find an array of low-budget documentaries of spurious quality, landfill reality TV and how-did-this-get-made TV movies (Amish Abduction).
Do a bit of digging, though, and you’ll find plenty of movies that are genuinely worth watching, including the work of such respected directors as Michael Mann (Ali), Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan), David Fincher (Gone Girl) and Wes Anderson (The Grand Budapest Hotel).
Look beyond even those worthy films, and Tubi is positively stuffed with genre and cult offerings – sci-fi, horror, comedy, martial arts, thrillers and more besides. Finding these can take a bit of hunting around, however, so...

"Saturday Night Live" has been going on for 50 seasons now, so they've had their fair share of bad hosts. Sometimes the host is simply not that comfortable with live acting -- looking at you, January Jones or Jacob Elordi -- and sometimes the host has the bad luck of getting a cold at the worst possible moment, like what seemingly happened to poor Jean Smart in the season 50 premiere. Other times the host is bad because, well, they're just kind of a bad person.
Case in point: Steven Seagal, who hosted in April 1991 and helped deliver an episode so terrible that it got him banned from the show forever. Over three decades later, most "SNL" fans are happy to just pretend the episode never happened, because ite was a trainwreck in a way that wasn't even that fun or interesting.

It seems Denis Villeneuve is ready to get sand-traumatized again. With awards season bearing down upon us, there's a strong chance the filmmaker will be spending the next several months gathering accolades left and right for "Dune: Part Two." Despite releasing in the first quarter of the year, Villeneuve's "Dune" sequel remains one of the most critically-acclaimed films of 2024 and is practically assured to be in the running for several Oscar categories at the 2025 Academy Awards ceremony. Not that Villeneuve is waiting around; he's currently got several irons in the fire, including a movie adaptation of author Annie Jacobsen's nonfiction book "Nuclear War: A Scenario" (via The Hollywood Reporter) and, oh right, "Dune 3."
The filmmaker's third trip to Arrakis is expected to adapt the second entry in Frank Herbert's original "Dune" novel sextet, 1969's "Dune Messiah," and only "Messiah". While it shouldn't be quite as monumental an...

Dune and Dune: Part Two are widely considered among the best sci-fi movies ever, and while the former faced many challenges courtesy of Covid (including a day-and-date release on what was then HBO Max), both were successful enough to warrant a threequel.
Filmmaker Denis Villeneuve will return to helm Dune: Messiah, a movie he tells Deadline (via SFFGazette.com) "will finish the Paul Atreides arc." However, despite the fact author Frank Herbert wrote an additional four sequels after that one, this third instalment will be it for Villeneuve and Dune.
Explaining that he views the first two movies as "one entity," he the directed elaborated by saying those are "a movie made in two parts. It's finished, it's done."
As for why he came back for a third chapter, Villeneuve added, "Like Herbert did with Dune: Messiah, I think it’ll be a great idea to do something completely different.

Denis Villeneuve has started work on a third ‘Dune’ movie. The 57-year-old director helmed the 2021 sci-fi blockbuster and its sequel ‘Dune: Part Two’, and has now revealed he is currently immersed “deep” into novelist Frank Herbert’s space fantasy universe as he continues to work on the third instalment, even though he initially thought he would be stepping back from the series for a time to focus on other projects. He told Deadline: “Let’s say that I thought that after ‘Part Two’ that I will take a break, that I will go back in the woods and stay in the woods for a while to recover. But the woods weren’t really suiting me, and I would go back behind the camera faster than I think. Acting has become a profession that everyone likes to try their hands on. This is not exclusive to those who wish to see themselves get famous, as some of the most successful names in the industry have tried their hands in a film or two. Naturally, the One Direction icon, Harry Styles, also joined this trend and has been starring in projects here and there.

Charlize Theron has played many iconic characters over the years. From embodying someone like Megyn Kelly in Bombshell to playing the role of a real-life serial killer in Monster, she has showcased her versatility as an actress time and time again. However, no film has managed to get her as much recognition as Mad Max: Fury Road.

Having played the role of Imperator Furiosa, she managed to steal the spotlight in a cast full of respected actors like Tom Hardy, Nicholas Hoult, and Zoë Kravitz. Considering how iconic her performance was, it is difficult to imagine someone else playing the role in the original film, even though Anya Taylor-Joy did take over recently in the prequel.
However, it would seem that Gal Gadot almost got the role, long before she became Wonder Woman.

Up to this point, not much has been known about The Gorge, the latest film from Sinister, The Black Phone, and Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson. Announced two years ago, it’s an Apple Original Film coming our way from Skydance Productions and has Anya Taylor-Joy (Furiosa) and Miles Teller (Top Gun: Maverick) in the lead roles – and today, IGN has revealed some information about the film, which will be released through Apple TV+ sometime in 2025. Along with the info comes the unveiling of some first look images and a poster, which can now be seen in this article.
Based on a spec script by Zach Dean, The Gorge is said to be a high-action, genre-bending love story. We previously heard that it centers on two soldiers (Taylor-Joy and Teller) who are tasked with guarding a seemingly never-ending gorge with one agent posted on either side. IGN revealed that Teller...

IGN has shared the official poster art and a few first-look images from Derrickson’s The Gorge this afternoon, while also sharing plot details that had been previously under wraps.
The outlet details, “Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy play elite snipers – one American, the other Lithuanian – stationed in watchtowers on opposite sides of a vast and highly classified gorge located in a faraway land whose exact location they’re not even allowed to know. Their mission? To safeguard the outside world from an undisclosed, mysterious evil that lurks within.

It’s spooky-season which means it’s time for chilly weather, falling leaves and, of course, horror movies. We’re celebrating the genre by honoring those that make it so special with a countdown of the greatest scream queens working today.
7. Anya Taylor-Joy Robert Eggers hates his debut film The Witch starring Anya Taylor-Joy
Anya Taylor-Joy took over the high-octane, adrenaline-fueled world of Mad Max with this year’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, but its her work in the terrifying world of horror that gets her on this list. Starting with Robert Eggers The Witch, the talented young actress went on to showcase her skillset in the genre through a wide range of films while working with some of the most talented filmmakers in the business. Split, Last Night in Soho and The Menu are prime examples of what makes Anya Taylor-Joy a true scream queen.

Lauren Lavera is currently starring in Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3, but she actually got her start as Anya Taylor-Joy’s body double in Split. The M. Night Shyamalan thriller was Lavera’s first experience as a background artist after the director spotted her on set.
“One day, M. Night passed me and we connected eyes. My mom was with me on set that day and she was like, ‘Oh, that was weird. Did he recognize you?’ And I was like, ‘I’ve never met him before in my life,’” Lavera told THR. “And the day after, I got a call from the casting director asking me if I could be the double for Anya. So I wondered if he saw some resemblance between Anya and I in that moment the day before. We both had darker hair, and we were probably closer in physical appearance at that time.“

Michael Myers and Ghostface met their match with Laurie Strode and Sidney Prescott, respectively, and now Art the Clown has met his courtesy of Lauren Lavera’s Sienna Shaw in the Terrifier franchise.
For every larger-than-life slasher villain, there’s usually a determined final girl there to stop them. If Terrifier (2016) was Art’s (David Howard Thornton) introduction, then Terrifier 2 (2022) was Sienna’s origin story, establishing her as the co-lead of the indie franchise thanks to Lavera’s equally emotional and physical performance. Terrifier mastermind Damien Leone recently told THR that Lavera’s Sienna is not only his favorite character, but that she’s also the “heart and soul” of his successful franchise.
“It’s just as much her franchise as it is Art the Clown’s at this point,” Leone told The Hollywood Reporter in a recent interview ahead of Oct. 11th’s theatrical release of Terrifier 3.

Scarlett Johansson, Taylor Swift and Johnny Depp are among the celebrities whose identities are most often exploited for online scams.
Computer security company McAfee released its annual list (below) of the top 10 celebrity names with search results that tend to get compromised by hackers trying to rip off unsuspecting fans.
The actors’ likenesses are being used without permission on fraudulent schemes that peddle movie or song downloads, deals on celebrity-backed products, cryptocurrency investments or tickets to high-demand concerts. The scammers also sometimes use convincing-looking deepfake videos of the actors to get a fan’s bank account information or to install malware on their devices that could result in identity theft.
“With cybercriminals using advanced AI tools to create more convincing scams, the risks are growing, and celebrity names are the perfect bait for curious consumers,” said Abhishek Karnik, McAfee’s head of threat research, whose company sells protection software and a deepfake detector.

“Nosferatu” is coming.
The new retelling of the F.W. Murnau classic, written and directed by Robert Eggers, arrives in theaters on Christmas Day. And the brand-new trailer for the historical horror epic, which stars Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson and Willem Dafoe, has flown in through an open window. Watch it below.
In “Nosferatu,” which was initially a loose retelling of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula,” changed just enough to skirt any copyright challenges, Depp plays a young woman who comes under the thrall of a supernatural evil (Skarsgård). Dafoe, who starred in “Shadow of the Vampire,” a fictionalized retelling of the making of “Nosferatu,” appears as the Van Helsing stand-in Prof. Albin Eberhart Von Franz. Hoult is Depp’s put-upon love interest.

Robert Eggers is continuing his cult films of the occult.
The “Witch” and “The Northman” auteur takes on his long-gestating reimagining of “Nosferatu,” with Bill Skarsgård playing the titular vampire. “The Idol” breakout Lily-Rose Depp stars as Ellen Hutter, a woman whose soul is seduced by Count Orlok (Skarsgård) while her husband Thomas Hutter (Nicholas Hoult) fights to save her.
Eggers writes and directs the remake of F. W. Murnau’s 1922 film, which was later adapted by Werner Herzog in 1979. The official description for Eggers’ “Nosferatu” reads: “Robert Eggers’ ‘Nosferatu’ is a Gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.”
Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney, and Eggers’ longtime “The Lighthouse” and “The Northman” collaborator Willem Dafoe also star.

Just when you thought it was safe to visit spooky castles in Eastern Europe occupied by mysterious pale recluses, the new trailer for "Nosferatu" has arrived with an important health and safety warning. The upcoming vampire horror is a new adaptation of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film "Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror," which lifted its story from Bram Stoker's "Dracula."
"Nosferatu" stars Bill Skarsgård as the titular vampire, Count Orlok, alongside Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, and Lily-Rose Depp as the unfortunate young people who are drawn into Orlok's influence. The film also reunites director Robert Eggers with Willem Dafoe, who starred in his 2019 surrealist thriller "The Lighthouse," and Ralph Ineson, who fought an evil goat (and lost) in Eggers' breakout debut "The Witch."

Fascinated by Zendaya’s stunning looks at this year’s Met Gala? So is Pedro Almodóvar. In fact, the Spanish filmmaker told Vanity Fair Spain he wants to make a movie inspired by the actress and her stylist, Law Roach.
“I’ve asked about this guy, and they’ve told me that he’s almost as much of a diva as she is,” he told the outlet. “I’d love to make a film about them, a mix of ‘All About Eve’ crossed with ‘The Devil Wears Prada.'” [The interview is in Spanish, which we’ve translated using Google Translate.]
Roach has worked with numerous celebrities, including Céline Dion, Ariana Grande, Anya Taylor-Joy and Kerry Washington — but in 2023, he announced he would be working exclusively with “Challengers” star Zendaya in lieu of retiring.

In some ways it feels like the Olympics haven’t left Paris just yet, as Dior unveiled its Spring-Summer 2025 collection during Paris Fashion Week in a unique way — with competitive archer and artist Sofia Ginevra Gianní, known as Sagg Napoli, shooting arrows into a target at the end of the runway.
The show brought the likes of Natalie Portman, Jennifer Garner, Anya Taylor-Joy, Elizabeth Debicki, Rosamund Pike, Ashley Park, Rosalía and South Korean singer Jisoo to the front row, with France’s First Lady Brigitte Macron sitting beside Lvmh’s owners.
As guests waited for the show to start in the light blue room, attendees couldn’t help but notice the arched plexiglass tunnel structure in the middle. “What could that be for?” echoed through the audience. “Why would models walk through a protected clear tunnel?” others whispered. But as Sagg Napoli opened the show by walking through the tunnel...

The Gotham Awards have named the first filmmaker to be honored at the 2024 ceremony: Denis Villeneuve.
This year’s ceremony, which will take place on Monday, December 2, will toast the “Dune: Part Two” auteur with the Gotham Director Tribute.
Villeneuve’s sci-fi sequel film starred Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya and was released in March 2024. The feature was the sequel to Villeneuve’s 2021 Oscar-winning “Dune,” which was adapted from the first half of Frank Herbert’s beloved novel of the same name.
In addition to the expanding “Dune” franchise, French-Canadian filmmaker Villeneuve has previously directed “Blade Runner 2049” (2017), “Arrival” (2016), and “Sicario” (2015), among other features. The Gotham also has a tie to one of Villeneuve’s early films, “Incendies” (2010), which the organization supported through the IFP Week Program.
“Denis Villeneuve has masterfully adapted Frank Herbert’s classic, first with 2021’s ‘Dune’ and now with ‘Dune: Part Two,’ creating a visually stunning and...

Science fiction is a genre that thrives on mankind's ability to imagine the future. Sci-fi films take us to galaxies far, far away, or they guide us down the rabbit hole into a computer program. We can visit forbidden planets or envision technologies that transform our own world, exploring space, or learning all too late that in space, no one can hear us scream. Ray Bradbury, author of "The Martian Chronicles," put it this way: "Science fiction is the most important literature in the history of the world, because it's the history of ideas, the history of our civilization birthing itself."
By revisiting the films on this list, however, we can imagine a different sort of future: someone's future acting career. The sci-fi genre has provided a jumping-off point for countless stars who went on to make their mark elsewhere, including future Oscar winners, future comedians, future talk show hosts,...
