This post contains spoilers for X-Men ’97 episode 8.
“Magneto was right.” That phrase, spoken by Val Cooper at the end of the eighth episode of X-Men ’97 “Tolerance is Extinction Part One,” sent shivers down the spines of everyone watching. The extreme intolerance of humans like Bastion shattered Xavier’s dream, suggesting that humans and mutants could never, ever co-exist. The humans just won’t let the mutants be.
Before that statement occurred to Val Cooper, it appeared as a T-shirt. Specifically, a T-shirt worn by Quentin Quire, an incredibly powerful and incredibly condescending teen who attended Xavier’s School for Gifted Children. In New X-Men #135 (2003), written by Grant Morrison and penciled by Frank Quitely, Quire completes a transformation many of us experienced, from shy nerd to condescending punk. He dons an outfit to match, consisting of died purple hair, hip spectacles, and a T-shirt that read “Magneto Was Right.

This article contains spoilers for "X-Men '97."
Episode 5 of "X-Men '97" — "Remember It" — may very well go down as the most shocking TV moment of 2024. Adapting the dark "X-Men" comic storyline "E Is For Extinction" by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely, a giant Sentinel razed the new mutant homeland of Genosha, killing thousands, if not millions.
Episode 6, "Lifedeath Part 2," took a break focusing instead on the absent Storm and Professor X, but episode 7, "Bright Eyes," explores the fallout of Genosha. It picks up about a week later when the X-Men are hosting a rainy funeral for Gambit. They go back to Genosha to continue searching for more survivors. They find one: Emma Frost, White Queen of the Hellfire Club.
Emma, who was part of Genosha's short-lived ruling council, is a telepath. During the attack, she unlocked a second mutation to turn her skin diamond hard, so she survived being crushed under rubble.

Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel is a movie star. "The Marvels" has been cited as another sign of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's fall from dominance, but everyone loves young actor Iman Vellani as this spunky heroine. /Film even named Kamala the best movie hero of 2023 and proclaimed her the future of the MCU.
Of course, Kamala comes from Marvel Comics and was co-created by G. Willow Wilson, Sana Amanat, Stephen Wacker, Adrian Alphona, and Jamie McKelvie. The comics made a bizarre move of synergy in 2023; between Kamala's Disney+ show "Ms. Marvel" and the theatrical run of "The Marvels," she heroically dies in "Amazing Spider-Man" #26 (by Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr.), published in May 2023.
Wells' "Amazing Spider-Man" isn't exactly a fan-favorite (the stink of breaking up Peter and Mj has carried across his run) and this was a low point. It was the cheapest of cheap melodrama and Kamala perished while pulling guest star duty.

This X-Men ’97 article contains spoilers.
Life has never been easy for the X-Men, or any mutant in the Marvel Universe. They’re feared and hated, oppressed just for being alive. They’re betrayed time and again, even by heroes who call themselves their friends.
But in the history of the X-Men, there are three stories that stand out as particularly heartbreaking: Mutant Massacre, E is for Extinction, and Fall of X. And the latest episode of X-Men ’97 just combined them all into one shocking half-hour full of deaths.
“Remember It” begins as a love letter to all things X-Men, as Magneto, Rogue, and Gambit head to the island nation of Genosha. Once the home of an oppressive human regime (modeled in the original comics after Apartheid South Africa), Genosha has become a home for mutants, a sovereign nation under mutant rule. Director Emi Yonemura and series creator Beau De Mayo...

Spoilers for "X-Men '97" to follow.
Well, the first season of "X-Men '97" just swerved hard — but if you're familiar with the comics, you may have seen this coming.
In previous episodes, it seemed like human-mutant relations were slowly improving; Magneto turned over a new leaf, talking human authorities into giving him a second chance in the process, while Genosha was joining the United Nations. As established in the original "X-Men" animated series, Genosha is an island nation that once used enslaved mutants; mutants have since taken it over and turned it into a country for themselves. Statues of Magneto and Professor X adorn the land, twin monuments to the competing mutant messiahs.
In episode 5, "Remember It," the new love triangle of Rogue, Gambit, and Magneto flies to Genosha to get a firsthand look, meeting several familiar faces in a thriving mutant refuge. It's not long for this world; at a gala the following night,...

The animated X-Men are about to make their return to TV in "X-Men '97." This Disney+ series is basically a thirty-year-late sixth season of 1992's "X-Men," the first cartoon about the Marvel Comics superhero team.
The "X-Men" comics kept chugging along through highs and lows while their animated counterparts were in limbo, though. At SXSW 2024, Marvel previewed the comics' future. A relaunch is coming to "X-Men" in Summer 2024 under the banner "From The Ashes," the follow-up to the ongoing "Fall of X." There'll be three primary series at first:
"X-Men" by Jed MacKay and Ryan Stegman. Cyclops and Magneto will lead a traditional X-Men superhero team based in Alaska.
"Uncanny X-Men" by Gail Simone and David Marquez. "Outlaw" lovebirds Gambit and Rogue head to New Orleans with Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Jubilee in tow.
"Extraordinary X-Men" by Eve Ewing and Carmen Carnero. Set in Chicago, Kitty Pryde and Emma Frost...

According to reports actress Emma Corrin (“The Crown”) will play Marvel Comics super-villain ‘Cassandra Nova’, in the upcoming live-action feature “Wolverine 3”, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman:
Created by writer Grant Morrison and illustrator Frank Quitely, ‘Cassandra Nova’ debuted in Marvel Comics “New X-Men” #114 (July 2001).
The character is classified as a ‘mummudrai’, parasitic life form born bodiless on the astral plane. The mummudrai that became Cassandra became telepathically entangled with the future ‘Charles Xavier’, who possesses vast mutant telepathic powers. This granted Cassandra some psionic powers herself, including the ability to exit the womb and create a body.
“Cassandra is Xavier's ideological dark shadow, bent on destruction and genocide. She is most infamous for commanding an army of ‘Sentinels’ to massacre 16 million mutants within the mutant homeland of ‘Genosha’.”

The 34-year-old British actor Nicholas Hoult kicked off production last week on Warner Bros. Discovery’s next big bet: “Superman” with director James Gunn and actors David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan. The star of “About a Boy,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” and Hulu series “The Great” recently went on Michael Rosenbaum’s “Inside of You” podcast and talked a bit about preparing for the role of the evil mastermind Lex Luthor.
First, he complimented his new boss Gunn for making the audition process fun. He said he enjoyed the “Guardians of the Galaxy” auteur’s method of “try[ing] things in the moment, just shouting out from the monitors, ‘Say this line. Do this! Do that!’”
Then he added that even though Luthor is better known for his brains rather than his brawn, Hoult has been hitting the weights. “There’s that bit in ‘All-Star Superman’ [the Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely...

It was the starting Gunn in Metropolis.
The cornerstone of Warner Bros. Discovery’s rebooted series based on its DC Comics intellectual property has officially begun principal photography. The movie previously known as “Superman: Legacy” is expected in theaters July 11, 2025, but its writer-director James Gunn, who with producer Peter Safran co-heads DC Studios, announced via social media that he’s sticking with just “Superman.”
“When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film ‘Superman: Legacy.’ By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was Superman. Making our way to you July 2025,” he wrote.
He also shared an image, a close-up of Kal-El, the Last Son of Krypton’s chest—the familiar Superman logo with a little bit of snow on it. This suggests that he is busting out of his icy Fortress of Solitude. If you don’t know what I am talking about,...

When it comes to superheroes, their logos are equally important as their costumes. And with James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film, fans are eager to see what the logo will look like. The logo was recently revealed (along with the updated title), and it has created quite a stir among fans. The filming officially began, as the DC co-head announced on social media on February 29. Did we mention that he also updated the title to Superman?
Additionally, the new S symbol was unveiled, providing the public with their first official look at David Corenswet’s DC Universe suit. Having said that, many people started comparing Gunn’s Superman logo to the one featured in Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel film. While the two logos have a number of similarities, there is one hidden Easter egg in Gunn’s logo that fans need to look out for.

The casting of The Crown’s Emma Corrin in Deadpool & Wolverine’s in a lead role has led to plenty of speculation as to whether they’re playing the film’s villain. Although some thought she’d be playing a variant version of Deadpool to give a twist on Lady Deadpool, others were adamant she’d bring Cassandra Nova to the party. Now, it looks like the latter has been confirmed.
As seen on the US Copyright Office site, Corrin’s character is listed as “Cassandra Nova,” seemingly confirming they’ll be playing the villainous twin sister of Charles Xavier. Introduced in 2001’s New X-Men #114, Cassandra Nova has similar telekinetic and telepathic powers to Charles Xavier. But instead of using them for good, she tried to eradicate the so-called “mutant menace” by dispatching an army of Sentinel robots to the mutant island of Genosha, massacring millions of mutants in the process.

If you needed confirmation that James Gunn is getting ever closer to shooting Superman: Legacy, look no further than a new picture posted by the filmmaker (and DC Studios co-chief) of him and his cast assembled in Atlanta for a table read. Take a look:
Standing with the writer/director as well as producer Peter Safran (who co-oversees the DC movie arm of Warner Bros. with him) are David Corenswet (Clark Kent/Superman), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardener), Isabela Mercad (Hawkgirl), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Terence Rosemore (Otis), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher) and María Gabriela de Faría (Angela Spica/The Engineer). Not pictured? Sean Gunn, who is playing Maxwell Lord. And – assuming the Gunn regular is actually going to be in the film – Michael Rooker, possibly just off to the side, wondering why he was asked to get the coffee.

When James Gunn took over as the head of DC, many fans questioned his decision to completely revamp the franchise with some rather controversial moves. This included Henry Cavill’s exit as Superman with other prominent stars like Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot also ending their association with the franchise. Along with these significant changes, Gunn also introduced an array of projects including Superman: Legacy.

With the debut of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ the curtain falls on the Dceu, marking the official transition to James Gunn’s revamped Dcu. The upcoming Phase One, titled “Gods & Monsters,” promises various exciting projects, with ‘Superman: Legacy’ generating substantial anticipation as it introduces the new cinematic Superman and supporting characters. While James Gunn has been forthcoming with details about the film, certain elements, including Superman’s new costume, remain tightly guarded.
A question posed to Gunn on Threads inquired about the likelihood of a glimpse of Superman’s suit before the commencement of filming. Gunn responded unequivocally: Zero-Point-Zero.
Filming for ‘Superman: Legacy’ is slated to commence in March 2024, promising revealing set photos in the near future. This film, not an origin story, will center on a young version of Superman, a reporter who encounters pivotal characters like Lois Lane throughout the narrative.

With the release of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ Dceu is officially over, and James Gunn’s rebranded Dcu is ready to take over. There are several projects about to be released as a part of Phase One aptly titled “Gods & Monsters,” but the most hyped-up project currently is ‘Superman: Legacy,’ set to introduce the new cinematic Superman and the supporting cast. While Gunn is always ready to share details from the upcoming movie (that he is at liberty to share), some things are still left under tight wraps, and one of them is Superman’s new costume.
One of the questions that Gunn answered on Threads was what the odds of seeing Superman’s suit before the filming begins, and he answered in a pretty straightforward way: Zero-Point-Zero.

The DC Universe is abuzz with anticipation! Word on the street is that John Logan, the three-time Oscar-nominated genius behind hits like ‘Gladiator,’ ‘Skyfall,’ and ‘Hugo,’ is in discussions to write the screenplay for ‘The Brave and the Bold.’ If that doesn’t get you excited, I don’t know what will.
So, what’s the plot stirring in the DC pot? The studio is gearing up to delve into Bruce Wayne mentoring his son, Damian, grooming him to become Robin. Sounds riveting, right? The cherry on top? Warner Bros' DC Comics franchise is in dire need of an industrial-grade fumigation. When Christopher Nolan peaced out with the wildly uneven "The Dark Knight Rises" in 2012, the studio asked Zack Snyder to quarterback its DC Extended Universe answer to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's "Avengers" initiative. Unfortunately, Snyder's "Man of Steel" not only fell short of commercial expectations, it cheesed off a sizable portion of the hero's fanbase (who were furious over Superman's out-of-character killing of General Zod). Rather than play the long game and focus on nailing the other main characters, DC panicked and greenlit "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," a cart-before-the-horse debacle that dampened reasonable people's expectations for a stirringly epic superhero saga.
Despite solo successes with 2017's "Wonder Woman" and 2018's "Aquaman," the stink clung to Snyder's "Justice League." A family tragedy forced him to leave the calling-all-superheroes production, and his replacement, Joss Whedon, could not...

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" feels like the last project of the old era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe; the last proper epilogue to "Avengers: Endgame." For one, it is the rare Marvel movie to actually offer a conclusion to its characters and story, rather than back out to tease a sequel. It is also a funny movie that reinterprets one of the coolest Marvel characters in hilariously inventive ways, and finally admits that the true leader, protagonist, and heart of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" movies is Rocket -- the reason James Gunn came back to direct the third installment in the trilogy.
"Vol. 3" finally explores Rocket Raccoon's backstory, one that Gunn worked out even before he wrote the first "Guardians of the Galaxy." That backstory, and the friends that Rocket met along the way, are the key to the entire film, and the story of the raccoon's...

Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely’ s All-Star Superman is described as the finest salute to Silver Age ever to be written, embracing all the silliness and heart found in the Mort Weisinger-edited run of the Superman family of titles. Distilled down into a feature animated film, the story remains the same, just tighter.
The 2011 Warner Home Entertainment release is back, making its 4K Ultra HD debut. I liked it when first released, and the new edition is sharper and crisper, the 2060p transfer is excellent. Is it enough to upgrade? That’s up to you, but it belongs in your home video library in one form or another.
The strength in the adaptation has everything to do with the late Dwayne McDuffie’s screen adaptation, aided and enhanced by a wonderful score by composer Christopher Drake
The DTS-hd 5.1 Master Audio track is the same as the 2011 release and sounds just fine.

When James Gunn announced at the end of January that he was writing "Superman Legacy" -- the first Man of Steel installment in the "Gods and Monsters" film series he's spearheading as part of the DC Universe alongside his DC Studios co-head and producer Peter Safran -- expectation was rampant that he would direct the movie as well. So we believed, and so it shall be.
Gunn confirmed via his Twitter account that he will take the helm of "Superman Legacy," which is currently set to fly into theaters on July 11, 2025. This is a date that has tremendous personal resonance for Gunn. We'll get to that in a second.
Plot details are obviously scarce two years prior to release, but here's what WB shared via a press release today:

What You Need To Know About All-Star Superman, One Of The Key Comics Behind James Gunn's DC Universe
Ever since Warner Bros Discovery hired James Gunn and Peter Safran to restart their slate of DC films, fans have been debating what the new status quo might look like. Will these new movies be in the vein of "The Suicide Squad" or "Peacemaker," witty and sentimental action blockbusters with an affinity for the grotesque? Or will Gunn rein in his style and produce films more in line with the company's recent output? Gunn gave audiences a clue in a January press conference, where he revealed the first big film of his reign would be "Superman: Legacy." Rather than another origin story, it was teased as "Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing."
My first instinct reading that synopsis is to draw a connection to "Superman Smashes the Klan," Gene Luen Yang's fantastic 2019 limited series that borrows from the radio play "Clan of the Fiery Cross." The...

When it was announced that James Gunn, is both a surprising and exciting choice.
Alongside Peter Safran and the animated Creature Commandos. As for The Authority, the brutal superhero team could be labelled as either gods or monsters depending on their mood on any given day.
Intrigued yet? Gunn has described The Authority's screen debut as a "big movie" in his and Safran's overall plan, so let's take a closer look at the team, who they are, and why the Justice League should be worried. That's right. A (wild)storm is coming.
What is The Authority? The stormy comic book history…
Before getting into The Authority itself, let’s start with some backstory. Back in the ‘90s, when edgy anti-heroes like Spawn were all the rage, comic book legend Jim Lee founded an imprint named Wildstorm Comics, where he launched a gritty superhero team named Stormwatch. James Gunn announced a number of new DC movies and TV series earlier this week, but he’s continued to drop teases on social media. One of the big-screen projects announced was Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which will be based on comic by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, but there are other comics that have inspired James Gunn’s new DC Universe.
James Gunn took to Twitter to tease a few of the comics that will help shape the first chapter of the DC Universe.
We're talked a lot about Woman of Tomorrow, but these are more of the comics inspiring #DCStudios and the new #Dcu in these early days. That doesn't mean we're adapting all these comics, but that the feel, the look, or the tone of them are touchstones for our team. Check 'em out! pic.twitter.com/34KrVPeEL5

On the one hand, it’s hard to feel too bad for a guy who’s incredibly handsome, incredibly rich, and gets to spend a lot of time indulging his nerdy habits. On the other, you can’t deny that things have been pretty rough lately for Henry Cavill. The man seems to have been stuck in a “will he/won’t he” holding pattern for years.
First, the Snyderverse seemed to be done after the Joss Whedon cut of Justice League flopped, and then it seemed back when Zack Snyder’s Justice League hit HBO. And just when everyone from Warner Bros CEO David Zaslav to DC Chief Creative Office Jim Lee said that there were no plans for future Snyderverse movies, Cavill swoops in for a cameo at the end of Black Adam.

James Gunn and Peter Safran outlined the “first part of the first chapter” of the new DC movie and TV universe, simply dubbed Dcu at a press conference on the Warner Bros. lot this week. Amidst a slate of projects that includes everything from Booster Gold to The Authority to Creature Commandos to a new Batman (with Robin) and much more, there was a lot of love for Superman and his world. The first film of the new Dcu, which officially has the title of Superman: Legacy, will be released on July 11, 2025. Two years after that, another Kryptonian will join the party, in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the first solo big screen adventure for Kara Zor-El since Helen Slater wore the cape back in 1984.
“The one thing that we can promise is that everything from Superman forward … will be canon and will be connected,” Gunn explained at the briefing. “We...

Stop the presses! Like you or I, James Gunn likes to read! Imagine a world where someone can leave a pile of books atop their coffee table without the internet taking it as a sign of things to come. Look, it’s the day before New Year’s Eve, and this is entertaining. Join me as I mine one of Gunn’s recent tweets to report on a thing that isn’t happening. Recently, someone spotted three volumes of Grant Morrison’s iconic Batman and Robin comic book series atop Gunn’s coffee table. Naturally, people started thinking the books could be source material for an upcoming project from DC Films. It’s not an impossible leap, but Gunn says it’s not happening.
Yes, that’s what they were. No, they weren’t meant as a hint. Two of the volumes (2 & 3) just happened to be on my coffee table.

Comic book creator Mark Millar has quietly been working on a new series that he hopes will tap into the global audience of Netflix, the streaming service that is home to his Millarworld comics.
The Ambassadors centers on six characters in six different countries, and the concept is described as “Willy Wonka with superpowers.” It takes place in a world in which the superhuman genome has been cracked, and the scientist behind it is a Korean billionaire who builds the world’s first superhuman headquarters in Seoul and alerts the world that she will turn six ordinary people into super-people. This sparks a global competition for people who want to join a team that will be on call 24/7 for superhuman emergencies.

The DC Universe has gone through some major upheaval of late. Some issues can be credited to the merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery, while other problems have existed for a while. Between shelving the nearly-completed "Batgirl" and the continually-troubled production of "The Flash," not to mention the spotty quality of DC movies overall — read our review of "Black Adam" here — Warner Bros. didn't seem to have a clear direction for its comic properties. That may all be changing with DC Studios, which will be headed up by auteur James Gunn and producer Peter Safran. This begs the question, what's next for the Dcu?
We know sequels to the company's more successful films such as "The Batman," "Joker," and the long-gestating "Wonder Woman 3" are in the works, and that "Shazam! Fury of the Gods," "Blue Beetle" and "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" are set to hit theaters next year. Then...

For some, the most tantalizing aspect of director Matt Reeves’s three-hour opus The Batman was not just a fresh look into the early days of the Caped Crusader. Rather, it was the surprise cameo of Barry Keoghan as the Joker. It’s not that the movie didn’t have its fair share of villains, ranging from big personalities, such as the Riddler and the Penguin, to John Turturro’s menacingly understated turn as crime boss Carmine Falcone. But Reeves took a surprisingly grounded approach to Batman, even more so than previous director Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. How many members of Batman’s famously colorful rogues gallery could fit this aesthetic?
Turns out, more than you would think. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reeves is among many filmmakers, including The Suicide Squad director James Gunn and Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson, pitching ambitious DC projects to Warner Bros....

The Army of the Dead", available September 27, 2022, with illustrations by Eduardo Risso and cover by Gary Frank, plus variant covers by Frank Quitely, Charlie Adlard, Francesco Francavilla, Chris Mooneyham and Pia Guerra:
"...created by writer Robert Kanigher and illustrator Joe Kubert, 'Sgt. Rock' debuted June 1959, in DC Comics "Our Army at War" #83.
"Rock now returns to fight the most horrific enemy he’s ever encountered: resurrected dead 'Third Reich' soldiers. The story begins in Berlin, 1944. The Germans are flanked on all fronts by the combined 'Allied' forces, and defeat seems inevitable.

This week I will be revisiting the items from my X-Men sale that were first listed in Week 45. I am using an old Wizard Magazine this time around, as well as the grades and values on Zap Kapow Comics to come at the same issues with a fresh approach. Also this time round there are some new items joining the comics in the X-Men sale (yes I’m still scratching this trading card itch)! Depending on the amount of views/watchers I get on my listings, this will be the last time I list my X-Men comics until the characters join the MCU. Obviously I know I don’t have any key issues, but they are all good to high grade so waiting might be the way to go. I know it is unlikely the MCU is going to directly adapt any of the issues I have but the big...

Josh Duhamel is not pleased with Netflix's handling of his latest series.
The streamer canceled Jupiter's Legacy after a single season earlier this week, less than a month after its launch on the platform.
In response, Duhamel shared a shirtless selfie in character as Sheldon Sampson.
"When you get dumped by @netflix and have to put yourself back out there.... #sexysantasummer," the star captioned his post. "What's up, @hulu?"
Duhamel plays Sheldon Sampson, an aging superhero on the series, which is based on Mark Miller and Frank Quitely's graphic novels.
Sheldon and his band of superheroes have outgrown the life in the series and are now ready to hand over the responsibilities to a fresh crop of superheroes.
The new crop included Sheldon’s son Brandon (Andrew Horton) and his daughter Chloe (Elena Kampouris), but it was evident that the kids are not exactly ready for such a big challenge.
