The Amazing Spider-Man series remains one of the fan favorites thanks to on-off screen chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. While the duo never got to see credits roll on The Amazing Spider-Man 3, the actress reflected on her thoughts about returning to a canceled third installment.
The Amazing Spider-Man
Spider-Man has been one of the biggest box office draws in Marvel flagship since the release of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man movies. However, several factors led to its reboot with the former taking on the titular role. Serving as the hero for two movies, a third installment was a likely outcome back then. However, things were different for his female counterpart.
Emma Stone Reflected on Her Thoughts for The Amazing Spider-Man 3
While Emma Stone‘s filmography is more than enough for audiences to know her acting prowess, she gained wider prominence while portraying the role of Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man movie series.

Years before Sam Raimi’s ground-breaking Spider-Man trilogy made it to the big screen and forever revolutionized the comic book superhero genre, there were several other iterations of the tale with several other filmmakers and actors associated with the project. One of them was James Cameron, who was eager to have a more mature and grounded take on the web-slinger’s live-action debut film.

Associated and contacted by Carolco Pictures, Cameron originally wanted Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead before the studio went bankrupt. However, if the filmmaker’s version of the movie had made it through, we would have gotten Spider-Man fighting two different Marvel villains in his first film.

(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)
"We do very much have the ambition about creating a bigger universe around Spider-Man." These were the words uttered by former Sony Pictures Entertainment chief Michael Lynton after an investor meeting in November 2013. Those words would become the undoing of the franchise solely under Sony's stewardship, with 2014's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" serving as the nail in the coffin. With the benefit of hindsight, we might be looking at the most outright financially successful franchise-killer in cinema history.
The Andrew Garfield-led "Spider-Man" films remain a tragic mixed bag. There are those who adore Garfield as Marvel's famed webslinger. There are many others who can't get past the messy direction the films themselves wandered down -- particularly this sequel we're talking about today.

There are any number of actors who could have taken on the role of Dr. Otto Octavius in 2004's Spider-Man 2, but Sam Raimi made a somewhat unlikely choice with Alfred Molina. However, it would prove to absolutely be the right one.
The actor made Doctor Octopus his own and, even two decades later, his Doc Ock is still considered one of the best comic book supervillains to ever grace the screen.
In a recent interview, Molina reflected on his career and admitted he was surprised to be considered seeing as he was best known at the time for his roles in Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark and Frida.
"It was a big surprise to me, because it's not the kind of movie that I imagined myself to be qualified for. You always think of these big action films as [casting] physical types, and I've definitely never been that.

When it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's approach to the multiverse on the big screen, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" is the only movie that realizes the potential of franchise crossovers between the old guard of Marvel movies and the interconnected films of Kevin Feige's Marvel Studios. That's right, not even "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" properly delivered on the promise of a multiverse truly full of madness, opting instead for hollow fan service, even though director Sam Raimi had fun tearing all those alternate Marvel superheroes apart at the hands of the Scarlet Witch. Instead, it was the meeting of Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire as the various big screen Spider-Men that delivered a mostly satisfying spin through the wallcrawlers' weaving webs.

The biggest set piece in the most recent live-action Spider-Man film, 2021's "Spider-Man: No Way Home," involves, through a series of multiversal shenanigans, Tom Holland's friendly neighborhood web-slinger teaming up with two other Spider-Men to fight Electro, Sandman, and the Lizard on the Statue of Liberty.
The biggest set piece in 2004's "Spider-Man 2" involves Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man trying to stop a train full of innocent passengers from crashing.
By comparison, the train scene may seem almost quaint, but director Sam Raimi used it as an opportunity to combine then-state-of-the-art action filmmaking with genuine humanity and pathos, resulting in a cocktail that dozens of superhero films have been unable to fully replicate in the 20 years since. You remember the scene: As Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus (aka "Doc Ock") are fighting on a New York City skyscraper, they fall onto an elevated train zooming through the city and continue...

Spider-Man: No Way Home rocked the world of Marvel fandom more than two years ago and left the fans of the web-slinger immensely satisfied. One of the well-hidden secrets in the film was the appearance of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Mans from earlier Sony films. One scene involving Garfield’s Peter Parker has sparked new doubts about a potential plot hole in the billion-dollar-grossing film.
Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home
In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Jamie Foxx played the central villain Electro / Max Dillon. Dillon was an electrical engineer at Oscorp who idolized Spider-Man before a freak accident turned him into a powerful living electric capacitor. It is Spider-Man’s interactions with Max Dillon that are at the center of the new confusion.

There are always fans who vehemently defend Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone’s The Amazing Spider-Man movies. Sony’s second attempt at the web-slinger’s movie adaptation was widely considered inferior to Sam Raimi’s and MCU movies. However, the chemistry between the lead characters stood out in the film and one of Emma Stone’s mistakes in the film proves it.

The Poor Things actress and Garfield were romantically involved in real life at that time which was one of the reasons why the romance clicked with the audiences. Contrary to the earlier Spider-Man films, Gwen Stacy was made the lead opposite Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man movies.

A lot of past villains returned for "Spider-Man: No Way Home," but it's safe to say that Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin made the strongest second impression. When the Goblin side of him took over, he was mean and terrifying, even more so than he was back in 2002, but when the Osbourne side was back in control, he was surprisingly sympathetic. He brought a dark, unpredictable energy to the film that Tom Holland's first two "Spider-Man" movies never quite had. The brutality of the Green Goblin helped prevent the film from feeling a little too much like a theme park ride and helped make the movie's cameo-filled nature seem a lot less self-indulgent.
A lot of this came down to Dafoe's insistence that he could get in on the action and that the movie let him be in the fight scenes as much as possible instead of relying too much on CGI.

Back in February, Steven Yeun was announced to be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a "key role" in "Thunderbolts." Now, thanks to Robert Kirkman, it's been confirmed what Yeun's role is: Robert Reynolds/The Sentry.
The Sentry is a relatively recent creation, debuting in 2000 and created by Paul Jenkins, Jae Lee, and Rick Veitch. He's one of the countless Superman clones across comics; he has the same powerset, the flowing cape and S-insignia, he gets his powers from the sun, and he even boasts the classic alliterative secret identity (think "Clark Kent").
However, Mr. Reynolds is not all good. Afflicted with a personality disorder since he got his powers, his archenemy -- the soul-devouring shadow "The Void" -- is Reynold's own alternate personality. Now that Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) is the Hulk full-time and Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) was seemingly crushed beneath Mount Wundagore, the Sentry easily slots...

In a recent episode of Loki season 2, Ravonna Renslayer and Miss Minutes travel to 1863 Chicago. There, they find a young boy and give him a Tva handbook written by Ke Huy Quan’s Tva technician, Ouroboros. The next time we see that boy in 1893, he’s a man going by the name of Victor Timely who has studied the details of that book and is now able to invent the contraptions inside it, including the temporal loom that will become the center of the Tva.
This, of course, raises a question. Who really started the Tva? We’ve been told that the Tva was founded by He Who Remains, the man who Victor Timely will become. But now Loki shows that Victor/Hwr got the idea for the Tva from Ob’s book. How can He Who Remains be both the inspiration and be inspired?
The answer, of course, is time travel.

Oh what a tangled web we weave when the multiverse becomes part of Spider-Man canon. The Spider-Man film franchise started simply enough, with 2002’s “Spider-Man.” Fast forward 20 years and three different actors have played live-action versions of the Wall Crawler, with the trio joining forces in 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
The most recent Spidey flick wasn’t just a fun family reunion. It also led to Marvel verifying the existence of the multiverse in its live-action productions. As the former Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Strange says in the film, “The multiverse is a concept about which we know frighteningly little.”
While the establishment of the multiverse has a still yet-to-be-determined impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in the present it can make watching Spider-Man movies in order a little complicated.
Thankfully, there are a myriad of ways to enjoy your friendly neighborhood Spider-Men. Below is a list of the Web...

The canceled Sinister Six movie had a crazy scene with Spider-Man that no fan would have ever expected to see.
Long before Sony Pictures decided to share the Spider-Man film rights with Marvel Studios, the company had extensive plans not only for the iconic character but also his cast of colorful villains. They had made sure that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 would introduce a handful of baddies, who could then go on to star in sequels and their own spin-off films.
The 2014 Andrew Garfield-led project did successfully introduce and tease a crazy amount of bad guys: Vulture, Rhino, Doc Ock, Green Goblin, and Electro, just to name a few.

There’s one classic Spider-Man villain that Sony Pictures actively prevented from appearing in No Way Home.
In the final film that audiences saw, both Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures pulled together five previous villains from the franchise’s history and teamed up against Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Sandman, Lizard, and Electro all showed up. Needless to say, it resulted in a spectacle—one that is often claimed to be the best MCU outing in recent years.
Had those baddies not grouped up, what other options could have played out? Perhaps the dangling Scorpion subplot could have been resolved, or Kingpin might’ve made himself known to the wallcrawler.

When it comes to recreating action sequences from movies, it can be hard for Lego to deliver the excitement of a big screen blockbuster. The building brick playsets don't always match up very well with the scene itself, and while that's usually because they're made for kids who will fill in the gaps with their imagination, sometimes it's nice to have a Lego set that gets it right. That's what makes the recently released "Spider-Man: No Way Home" final battle playset so great.
In the ongoing Multiverse Saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, only "Spider-Man: No Way Home" has really delivered a satisfying spectacle utilizing the parallel universes of Marvel movies. The McU's Peter Parker (Tom Holland) met his cinematic predecessors thanks to a magic spell gone wrong, which brought in the versions of Peter Parker played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. In today’s comic/superhero media landscape, things are getting more diverse by the day, both in terms of the background of the characters and the interesting abilities they end up with. Kamala Kahn gives comic readers their first female Pakistani hero with her stretch powers, Robbie Reyes as one of the more recent iterations of Ghost Rider has the classic “fast vehicle and flames” power set, and Maya “Echo” Lopez has the ability to perfectly mimic any action she sees. There are plenty of Black superheroes too; like Electro with his electricity powers, and Static Shock with his electricity powers, and...

It really is true: Spider-Man does whatever a spider can. And across 10 theatrically released films, in live-action and animation both, he (or sometimes she) has spun a web any size, catching those thieves just like flies. Still, not all webs are created equal, and some of those captured thieves have made for better cinematic opponents than others.

Before the dawn of the Millennium, the prospect of a live-action Spider-Man meant Nicholas Hammond doing things slowly with a lot of string. The short-lived 1970s Spider-Man TV show perfectly illustrated that non-animated Spidey antics weren’t really achievable, although several – from James Cameron to Albert Pyun – tried to get projects spinning. But then came the arrival of CGI, and anything was possible…

They say that two heads are better than one, but when it comes to 2024’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse sequel, it could be a case of six heads are better than one. A wild theory has emerged that the infamous Sinister Six will be the big bads of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, and if you were watching Across the Spider-Verse closely, the lineup could’ve been hiding in plain sight.
Across the Spider-Verse cast Jason Schwartzman’s Spot as the main villain, but alongside a smorgasbord of Spider-People, you might’ve spotted Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus, Donald Glover’s live-action debut as Prowler, and more obscure foes like Mooseterio from Earth-8311. Away from equally ominous theories that Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac) will emerge as a vampiric villain in Beyond the Spider-Verse, the Sinister Six get an actual nod in the movie’s jaw-dropping finale.

This article contains major spoilers for "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse."
After nearly five years of waiting, "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" is finally in theaters. The story was simply too big to be contained in a single film, though, so audiences have much more to look forward to as this is just the first part of a two-part story that was cooked up by producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, alongside co-writer Dave Callaham. This means we now await the release of "Beyond the Spider-Verse" next year. Not only will that movie resolve the big cliffhanger we were left with this time around, but it will seemingly bring one of the most notorious supervillain groups to the big screen for the first time. That's right! It looks like we're finally getting the Sinister Six.

It's not just Tim Burton's "Batman" getting in on the Lego superhero fun this year. A new batch of Marvel Lego sets are on the way that will let fans rebuild the events from two big screen blockbuster finales in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Reaching back into the end of The Infinity Saga, a new Lego set creates a diorama recreating part of the final battle between Thanos and some of The Avengers. In fact, this set basically allows for the recreation of Marvel's not-so-subtle female superhero empowerment moment where all the lady superheroes of the MCU march towards Thanos. But it also includes the most important character in the entirety of the MCU, and trust me when I say you won't guess who it is.

The "Amazing Spider-Man" movies aren't as widely celebrated as the Sam Raimi trilogy, or as popular as the MCU Spidey flicks. But for me, there was a heart to "The Amazing Spider-Man" and its 2014 sequel that made Andrew Garfield's two outings as the wall-crawler just as good as any other Spider-Man movie. Unfortunately, I am very much in the minority on this highly important topic. Sure, they have their fans, but people in general just didn't seem to resonate with the Garfield films and their tragic history. Which is fine, especially since we got to see Garfield's Peter Parker return to rapturous applause in 2021's "Spider-Man: No Way Home."

Jamie Foxx is an incredibly gifted Academy Award-winning actor with a slew of impressive performances under his belt. The actor appeared in the TV show "In Living Color," Michael Mann's "Ali," "Collateral," and "Miami Vice," and won an Oscar for "Ray." There's seemingly nothing he can't do, which is why I was ecstatic when he landed the role of Electro in 2014's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2."
Foxx was worth every penny.
The comic book epic got bashed by critics upon its release. It was disappointing enough at the box office that Sony scrapped all plans for a follow-up. Thankfully, the movie gods gifted fans "Spider-Man: No Way Home," which brought back Foxx's Electro (and many more past favorites) for more Spidey-punching mayhem. And lucky for me, "No Way Home" makes it easier to pick out a handful of my favorite Foxx as Electro moments.
Be warned: there are many.

The Spider-Man films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have referenced the world of Miles Morales before. Though Miles exists in a different universe than Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, the live action web-slinger did meet Miles’ small time criminal uncle Aaron Davis (Donald Glover) in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and in the closing part of Jon Watts’ MCU trilogy, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Jamie Foxx’s villainous Maxwell Dillon aka Electro receives the news that infinite parallel universes exist by musing “there’s got to be a Black Spider-Man out there somewhere.”
Of course, there absolutely is, and he’ll be back this summer for a brand-new multiversal adventure! Not only that, but in the new trailer for Sony‘s upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the animated world of Morales’ wall-crawler is happy to clap back with a cheeky MCU reference of its own.

Thomas Haden Church was one of the many Spider-Man alum who returned for Marvel’s 2021 blockbuster “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” Church reprised his role of Flint Marko/Sandman from Sam Raimi’s 2007 “Spider-Man 3,” but his screen-time in “No Way Home” was fairly limited when compared to fellow returning villains like Electro (Jamie Foxx), Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) and Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina). In a new interview with The DisInsider, Church said conversations are taking place about future big screen appearances for Sandman.
“We had a whole story involving his his daughter, for ‘No Way Home,'” Church said about the character. “And it just ended up [cut]. There was just so much going on…Amy [Pascal] and Kevin [Feige], we all had a lot of conversations. And I would say that conversations have been had about the possibility of Sandman coming into an a future iteration of it.”
Church continued, “The...

"Spider-Man: The Animated Series" remains a beloved iteration of the iconic character almost 30 years after it first debuted. Much of that is due to the fact it borrowed some of the best storylines from the comics and adapted them for kids, who willingly lapped it all up via Fox Kids from 1994 to '98. From classic Stan Lee and Steve Ditko arcs to more modern comic book events, showrunner John Semper and the team behind "Spider-Man: The Animated Series" showcased their fine taste in choosing the best tales and standout characters from Spidey's long history.
One of the big storylines to make the cut was "Secret Wars." This massive 1984 crossover event was the result of Marvel and Mattel wanting to sell toys to kids, but is remembered fondly as a seminal storyline in comic book history. The 12-issue series saw heroes and villains from across Marvel series brought together on Battleworld...

Review: Since Marvel Studios rose to power in Hollywood, comic book animated series have varied wildly in quality. While DC and other companies have successfully adapted their titles, Marvel Comics-inspired animated projects have been all over the place. In recent years, we have gotten projects like M.O.D.O.K. and Hit-Monkey, as well as the MCU series What If?… All of these shows have grappled with mature storytelling, while the Disney feature film Big Hero 6 serves as the only big-screen project to take advantage of Marvel superheroes. Now, Disney Animation and Marvel have combined their powers for a new, kid-friendly animated series that harnesses the wholesome brand that the House of Mouse...

James Cameron really is the king of the box office. With "Avatar: The Way of Water" set to overtake Cameron's own "Titanic" as the third biggest movie of all time, the unstoppable director can claim to have made three of the five most financially successful films of all time. And even though there's simply no way things could have gone better for the veteran filmmaker, I can't help but wish he'd actually made his Spider-Man movie.
Yes, before Sam Raimi introduced us all to Tobey Maguire's Spidey in 2002 and set the standard for Spider-Man films going forward, James Cameron almost made his own web-slinging blockbuster. The director went as far as producing a "scriptment" (script and treatment combined) which has since found its way online. Unfortunately, the whole thing fell apart in 1995 when Carolco, the independent studio behind Cameron's mega-hit "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," and rights-holders to a Spider-Man movie,...
